L.E.K. helped a European life insurance company set up a direct banking operation. When it was launched in 1996, it was one of the first pure direct Internet banks, with no high street branches in the U.K. The operation quickly gained more than two million customers, attracting well over $10bn in deposits in its first few years and building a distinctive brand with strong customer loyalty.
