  1. 1. MMX3043 GAME DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT Miss Laili Farhana Md Ibharim Lecture 2 Introduction of Games Design and Development
  2. 2. CONTENT  Six structural elements of games  System and interactivity  Game flow design L.F.M.I. 2014 2
  3. 3. GAMES ENGAGEMENT L.F.M.I. 2014 3
  4. 4. GOOD GAME DESIGN is…. L.F.M.I. 2014 4
  5. 5. GOOD GAME DESIGN is…. L.F.M.I. 2014 5
  6. 6. GAME FLOW DESIGN  In designing and developing a game, STATE MACHINE show the different states of a game and how it responds to various events by changing from one state to another L.F.M.I. 2014 6
  7. 7. STATE MACHINE  Start up  Licenses  Introductory movie  Front end (game option, sound option, video option)  Loading screen  Main game (introduction, game level, pause option)  End game movie  Credits  Shut down L.F.M.I. 2014 7
  8. 8. DIAGRAMMING TOOL  A diagramis a simplified representation of drawing showing the structure, process, flow, appearance, relation or spatial mapping.  Diagramming tool consists of multiple two- dimensional geometric representation.  Also diagrams that represent information using graphs, bar chart, blueprints, infographics, illustration sketches or other techniques L.F.M.I. 2014 8
  9. 9. DIAGRAMMING TOOL L.F.M.I. 2014 9
  10. 10. DIAGRAMMING TOOL: Software Application SoftwareDiagram Creator L.F.M.I. 2014 10
  11. 11. GAME FLOW DIAGRAM (GFD)  GFD can be used for visual thinking, problem solving, brainstorming and others related with game design and development.  GFD will be the useful diagramming tools for the game design and development activity when it is concerned with the PLAYERS and GAMEPLAY L.F.M.I. 2014 11
  12. 12. GAME FLOW DIAGRAM (GFD)  The game team can discuss the GAME CONSTRAINTS, determine the boundary of the system and the details of the INTERACTION between the players and the gameplay.  GFD uses the same notation such as flowcharts. L.F.M.I. 2014 12
  13. 13. GAME FLOW DIAGRAM (GFD)  It breaks a process down to a FINITE NUMBEROF STEPS that get executed on e at a time.  GFD can be used by game team in order TO DOCUMENT GAME SPECIFICATIONS.  GFDs are typically used to describe the DETAILEDLOGIC OF A GAMEPLAY PROCESS ORGAME RULES. L.F.M.I. 2014 13
  14. 14. GFD EXERCISE Discuss in your group about your GFD. Good Luck!!! Discuss in your group about your GFD. Good Luck!!! L.F.M.I. 2014 14
  15. 15. SCREEN FLOW DIAGRAM (SFD)  Identify single screens or pages in an application (game).  Show how they connected to each other (how the user can navigate or action and move between them).  Identifying the goal of each one. L.F.M.I. 2014 15
  16. 16. SCREEN FLOW DIAGRAM (SFD) L.F.M.I. 2014 16
