  3. 3. 3|Page Mechanism of Hair Growth CycleThe scalp has at an average 100,000 hairs. A healthy scalp sheds hair continuously and new hair replaces them.Hair growth follows a series of cycle. Each cycle includes a growth phase (anagen), a transitional phase(catagen), and a resting phase (telogen). Any changes to the normal hair growth cycle would result in hair loss. Itoccurs when the old hairs are shed and no new hair is growing from beneath to replace it. However, when thescalp is not able to produce new hair to replace the shed hair, baldness develops and the condition isscientifically called as alopecia. The most common type of hair loss is androgenetic alopecic (AGA) both in men (Male pattern baldness) and women (Female pattern hair loss) and is caused by heredity hormones and genetics.
