The HippieThis subculture first came about in the USAduring the mid 1960’s. It originates from the term ‘hipster.’ They are a well known subculture thatstereotypically known for drugs, peace and love, music and the ‘flower power.’

Hippie InfluencesHippies had a major influence on fashion, music, television,film, literature and the arts. Since the 1960’s, more andmore people are becoming influenced by this subculture,mainly through fashion and music. Even though thissubculture first started over 50 years ago, there are stillhippie groups in society now who still abide to the originalvalues and beliefs.
Their values…Hippies have very strongmorals, they believe in peaceand love. They do not believein war or fighting, they thinkthat everyone should be civiland not fight. They have faiththat by living simply, they willbe able to define the meaningof life.
Their interests…Hippies have a high interest inmusic and just generally want tolead a simple life. They are veryinterested in health and organicfoods, but yet, they are known totake drugs and smoke. Festivalsare a typical place where hippiesgo as they are very interested inmusic.
Hippie music Hippies are very music orientated. The most famous groups that stereotypically are aimed at this subculture were ‘The Beatles’ ‘The Sex Pistols’ ‘The Rolling Stones’ and also the very famous singer ‘Bob Dylan.’ They all have a similar style of ‘chill’ which was very popular with the hippies. They typically listen to psychedelic music, which then progressed in the 1970’s to punk rock and roll.
