 Planning
Why Use Motion At All?
The answer to the
 “why” question will
provide us with focus
    and clarity of
     execution.
It will save you time,
and help you to decide
what applications and
    technologies are
  required to achieve
         success!
The 4 main tools for planning
   a motion sequence are:
        1) Treatments
           2) Scripts
        3) Storyboards
  4) Charts and Inbetweens
     5) X or Dope Sheets
1.Treatment
The treatment is a
simple overview of your
           story.
   It discusses THEME,
  motive, some action,
      characters and
2. The script.
The script is a textual
sequence of events that
  defines the dialogue,
  action, and or music
 contained in the work.
The script will describe
  when actors speak,
    what they say,
 characterizations and
        actions.
If your motion graphic
 lacks dialogue then a
script will only contain
    motion cues and
  possibly sound cues.
Eg.
- Ed walks slowly into a room
Ed - What is all the ruckus in
here, I am trying to sleep?!
-Ed wipes his eyes and looks
     directly at the camera.
Sally - I am eating cheezies!!!
In the previous
 example, the writer
  chose to use both
action and dialogue to
 describe the scene.
Be careful not to over
 describe the action.

Only describe moments
that are critical to the
         story.
3. Storyboards
A storyboard will define
your motion graphic by
        relating:
       1) Imagery
     2) Transitions
       3) Effects

use illustrated action,
  arrows and text to
 describe character,
  object and camera
 motion, dollying and

For next class, create a
     treatment that
 describes a story that
   will be used in the
  introduction of your
       video game.
This is the foundation
    for our major
     assignment.
