empathy and act in ways that honor the trust placed in
them by the people with whom they work.

a macro level
*This has a domino effect if money is cut, trickling down from the
macro level into the messo and micro level
* 3rd sector organizations are often the first to feel the budget cuts
* Immigrants are at risk of not having the sources and outlets to help
them integrate into Finnish society
* Basic subsidies such as housing, education, and job
opportunities are also at risk because of depleted funds.
HOWTHE MACRO LEVEL POLICIESTRICKLE
DOWN INTOTHE MICRO
37. * Micro level focused immigration organisations work with
individuals to assist in their independence and assimilation into the

* Education, job/language training, cultural integration
*These individuals eventually form groups and communities with
similar goals
* Several communities come together to affect a national social
change
38. *When dealing with immigrants, the public, private and third
sector have very similar goals: to provide marginalized people with
the same opportunity as everyone else
*The challenges are varied: cultural differences, language barriers,
funding, legislation
* Micro level interaction can have a direct influence on macro level
policies, and vice versa – micro private may influence macro public
39. * Legislation is constantly changing due to shifting public views on
how best to deal with the constant stream of immigrants entering
the country
*This a unique time in European history with immigrants, refugees,
and asylum seekers at record levels – and social workers are
constantly on the front line, dealing with this new wave of mass
migration
*There will always be a place for immigration social work because
immigration is inevitable and professionals are increasingly
needed to be liasons between the immigrants and Finland's national
interests.

Editor's Notes
Language barrier - difficult to share and get information (.. hard to make appointments, get personal information about the service users)- knowing Finnish is crucial in the Finnish working life
Cultural differences - maintaining respect (everyone has the ight to have their own opinions and values - How to respect other values and point of views, but at the same time teach Finnish values that are needed in everyday life)
To get help from the government - constant promoting and appealing is needed (.. so It's not that easy to get help even if it's immediate – for example, cold winter /homelessness)
