KERRY White has always been a people person. He spent many years telling other people's stories and fighting for others during the Vietnam War.
Now in semi-retirement he spends his time writing other people's stories.
Originally a Toowoomba boy, Kerry spent his childhood in Mt Tyson, a small rural town east of Toowoomba
When Kerry was only 10-years-old, his father died.
A few years later his mother moved the family back to Toowoomba.
Sitting at Cotton Tree overlooking the Maroochy River Kerry reflects on his time as a serving soldier.
Kerry was called to National Service in Vietnam in 1966-67.
During his time as a soldier in Vietnam Kerry wrote love poems for soldiers to send home to their girlfriends.
Kerry served in the Vietnam War in 1966-67 and like many soldiers the war affected him when he came home.
"My mother said the war changed me," he said.
"Some people cope with it a lot better than others."
In his late 20s Kerry was offered a full-time job at the Toowoomba Chronicle and he started his career in journalism.
"I remember one day a man was due to face court. When he escaped custody a photographer and I cottoned on to it and we chased him to
Highfields," he said.
"It was one of the most exciting things."
Kerry and his partner moved to the Sunshine Coast four years ago after his partner got a job at
the University of the Sunshine Coast.
His first book, The Poet from Hell, was published in 2014. Since then Kerry has self-published
Strength, Labour and Sorrows and his latest book, Three of a Kind.
The first book is filled with poetry from the war and some inspired from his time living in Mt Tyson
as a child.
To celebrate his 70th birthday Kerry published his second book, featuring a poetic story of his life
and a tribute to other Vietnam War veterans.
His latest book tells the story of three military pilots from World War I, World War II and the
Vietnam War.
A self-published author of all his books, Kerry says he has already started work on his fourth book,
an anthology of more poetry and possibly some short stories.
Kerry White has written his third book about three military pilots.
