2. I decided that the first logical step was to analyse my magazine title in black.
I think that it is effective, as it emboldens my magazine title, however I believe
that it may not stand out as much as some other colour variations may.
I believe that I need a more exciting colour for my title in order to attract my
target audience and convince them that my magazine would be a successful
one.
Furthermore, I wish to have a title with more colour so that I may establish a
'house theme' for my magazine - like the magazine 'Q' or 'NME' in comparison
to the black title of 'Kerrang!'.
3. I found that the black font was slightly lacklustre for my magazine title and so, I
decided to try a more daring, bold colour in order for it to stand out.
I found that the purple font did have the desired effect – it was eye-catching
and more exciting in comparison to the black.
However, I think that this colour may not be quite as appropriate for a
rock/alternative magazine as it may give of a more ‘pop’ feel to it.
4. Next, I decided to try a variant of the purple font that I used in the previous
slide.
I thought that by using a deep blue colour, it may give off more connotations
that are suited for a rock/alternative audience rather than a pop magazine
audience as the purple was.
I believe that although this font is more suited to my audience and for the
purpose of a magazine cover, it does have something missing for an actual
title. I don’t think it stands out as much as I would like it to, for example, I
believe a magazine with a stronger, bolder title colour, such as ‘NME’ or ‘Q’
would stand out more.
This revelation has encouraged me to experiment more with the colour red for
my magazine, as I believe it is an existing, effective feature of popular
rock/alternative magazines.
5. I then went on to try a red colour for my magazine title.
I believe that the red does stand out successfully for a magazine title, and it
would attract the target audience – as I know that existing magazines such as
‘NME’ are of a rock/alternative audience and are popular and successful.
However, I do think that this shade of red might be a shade or two too bright.
It is successful in standing out, but similar to the purple colour variation, it may
give off to much of a ‘pop’ feel, which wouldn’t be a good feature for my
rock/alternative magazine.
6. Finally, I tried a deeper variation of the red colour on the previous slide that I
had found to be partly successful.
I believe that this variation is extremely successful. It is suited to both my
target audience and the genre of my magazine.
The colour is bright enough to stand out on a shelf among numerous other
music magazines of a similar genre, making my magazine a successful one. The
colour would also be suited to my target audience as it does give off the right
impression and does implement the rock/alternative genre, rather than a pop
genre.
I believe that this colour variation is the most successful, and so, I will use this
colour variation for my magazine title in my final production.
