Props within thrillers

  1. 1. Props within thrillers The props that are used within movies and what they represent.
  2. 2. Necklace  This can represent a give that has usual been given to a female character, sometimes in the movie and others times before it has started, then we start to learn what it represents if she was given it before it started.  Sometimes its been given to her to represent a love connection, it’s a symbolic reminder of everlasting love.  In some cases it can be left by a loved one who tragically passed and it’s a constant reminder that they are always watching them.  In some movies they can be a powerful object that contain a secret to an answer people have been search for, some peoples ultimate goal is to retrieve the prop in order to get the information and save something or get a hint to where something is being held.
  3. 3. Fake blood  This is key in thriller films.  The reason that this is key in thriller movies is because there is a lot of violence within a thriller movie, and within the movie if there was no blood it wouldn’t look very realistic, it would look fake if someone was shot and no blood appeared. It would seem very strange and unrealistic.  Many reasons for substituting for real blood in the film industry, such as ethical and sanitary concerns, and concerns for the emotional well being of the actors.
  4. 4. Weapons  This shows us that there will be brutality and violence, which fits with the conventions of a thriller.  It also sets the tone that there is going to be danger throughout.  Symbolises death and evil.  Sets worry because the audience are worried for the victims.  It also sets enigma because the audience want to know who is going to get hurt and why this is happening to them.
  5. 5. Overview  All of these props are used to add suspense and tension throughout the movie.  Some prop can be relatable In the fact that the whole movie can be associated with one prob. For example fast and furious is based on cars and we associate this movie with having expensive, fast cars in it.  It resembles reality, the aim is to make them look as realistic as possible, so they make it like a setting that we are use to like a bedroom with lights and draws.  They always portray something for example a briefcase being held, we would assume the person was a businessman.  ‘Props’ is a shortened version for ‘properties’.
