2. What is FIFA
• The international game of Fútbol, or the
World Cup is ran by the Fédération
Internationale de Football Association. Also
known as FIFA.
• FIFA decides how and where the World Cup
will be held every four years.
– But are they doing this ethically?
3. Situation
• FIFA is the only organization to control and organize
international soccer.
– Because of this, they have authority over the sport of soccer
with little to no regulation.
• Budweiser bill in brazil
• FIFA courts 3 day jurisdiction in south Africa
• Although FIFA is a public, Swiss company, they are a
nonprofit, and therefor are exempt from taxes.
– Most FIFA Board members have accepted bribes from
prospective host countries for the World Cup since at least
1992.
– The US has accused FIFA of soliciting at least 150 million
dollars.
• EX-FIFA VP Jeffrey Webb Posted bail for corruption charge with a
Ferrari and 5 Rolex watches.
4. Who It Effects?
• Disregard for public safety or due process for
rights
• The environment
– Stadiums have never been used again expect for
parking lot.
• Construction workers building new stadiums in
Qatar for 2022 World Cup
– Estimated 4,000 workers will die while this project is
underway
– 1,200 have already passed.
5. What Is Being Done?
• Many of FIFA’s sponsors have said that they
are not satisfied with FIFA’s performance.
– McDonalds, Budweiser, Visa, Coke-a-Cola

• Other than suspending a few board members,
FIFA has taken no actions against the
allegations being brought to them.
6. Questions
• Should we allow FIFA to monopolize the global
soccer industry?
• Should the world cup location be based off of
the amount of money a country can give to
FIFA (bribes)?
• Should we support a company that does not
show care for the public or the workers it
hires?
