Property
• Competitive analysis
• Patent expansion on current
commercially available or
clinical stage molecules
• Product development support from bench to
clinic
• “Patent evergreening” /
analysis
• Troubleshooting specific optimization issues
including impurity profile analysis
• Expert witness services • Creating compound candidate profiles
6. Bioanalytical Chemistry
6
• We offer proprietary assays and method development to analyze
wide range of samples including but not limited to:
• We also provide a collection of standard methods,
method validation, and method transfer
• Blood Plasma • Urine • Formulated Products
• Serum • Feces • Environmental Samples
• Tissue • Raw
Materials
7. Analytical Chemistry
• Bruker 400 MHz spectrometer
• Analyzes Small (<1kD) molecules, synthetic or natural
• 1-D: 1H, 13C, 19F, 31P, 15N, 11B, etc.
• 2-D: COSY and NOESY (1H-1H) , HSQC (typically1H-13C), HMBC, DOSY
and more
• Variable temperature
• T1 measurement
7
NMR Spectroscopy
8. Analytical Chemistry
• LC-MS services are designed for both standard and custom methods
of characterizing molecules, formulations, or solutions.
• Our LC-MS system has three orthogonal detection methods: allows
for detection of much wider breadth of molecules than most LC-MS
systems.
• PDA: detects 200-800 nm
• ELSD: detects non-volatile material and non UV active
• MS: dual ESI/APCI ionization, detects charges
• Suitable for analysis of: small molecules, antibody fragments,
formulations, and solutions.

9. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing - MIC/MBC Assays
• Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)
• Measures antimicrobial susceptibility and sensitivity by inhibition of growth
of bacteria or fungi as a function of concentration
• At EP we use either disc diffusion, agar dilution or broth microdilution MIC
methods, depending on the test article
• Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) / Minimum Fungicidal
Concentration (MFC)
• The lowest concentration of an antibacterial drug that results in a 99.9%
reduction in the initial microbial density
• When performed in conjunction with MIC, can determine if antimicrobial
compounds are bactericidal or bacteriostatic
9
10. Antimicrobial Synergy – Checkerboard Testing
• Determines the effect on potency of the combination of antibiotics in
comparison to their individual activities, represented as the Fractional
Inhibitory Concentration (FIC) index value
• We at EP perform synergy testing to calculate the FIC index value on
our wide collection of bacterial strains ready for immediate use
10
11. Biofilm Testing
• Biofilms produced by bacteria render most of currently available
antibiotics ineffective by creating a “shield” through which antibiotics
cannot penetrate through
• Developing antibiotics that can penetrate through biofilm is vital,
especially in the healthcare setting
11
• To test a compound’s ability to
penetrate bacterial biofilm, at EP we
use the Minimum Biofilm
Eradication Concentration (MBEC)
assay in which we have years of
experience performing
12. Time-Kill Kinetic Assay
• Determines the time required by the antimicrobial agent to kill the
test microorganism
• Determines the number of bacteria killed at each time point
• Synergy time-kill is also available at EP
12
13. Cytotoxicity Testing
• Emery Pharma offers the following methods for cytotoxicity
evaluation:
• We offer a vast inventory of human and other mammalian cell lines:
• Your results will be determined in the form of a CT50 value, the dose
or concentration at which a test compound kills 50% of cells in vitro
13
• Agarose Overlay • Indirect Contact Agar Diffusion Test
• MEM Elution • MTT Assay
• Direct Contact Cytotoxicity
• Human fibroblast cell line (ATCC® CCL-1) • Peripheral blood monocyte cell line (ATCC® TIB-202)
• Lung epithelial cell line (ATCC® CRL 2503) • Kidney epithelial cell line (ATCC® CCL-81)
14. U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Methods
• At Emery Pharma, we are equipped to test products to ensure
compliance with USP standards, in particular the USP testing methods
details below.
• Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing (AET), USP <51>
• Microbial Examination of Nonsterile Products: Microbial Enumeration Tests,
USP <61>
• Microbial Examination of Nonsterile Products: Tests for
Specified Microorganisms, USP <62>
• We are able to provide a full range of services for companies and
organization currently in their pre-clinical and clinical stages of R&D
