Natural habitat, chaos in the background, action show, mouth in mid-command, challenge to capture the atmosphere because the harsh lighting in this space creates yellow overtones that needed to be mimimized so that the princess’s benevolence could shine through
Next, we see the princess’s transformation from day princess to night. This shot captures the shimmering on her princess night-wear, and you see that she has taken up residence in not her room but in her elders’ room so as to further delay the inevitable end of her day.
As in the last shot, the princess is engaged in ritual night reading, and you see here that I’ve chosen to focus on the patron said of four-year-olds, Pinkalisioucs, featured in the lower left corner. Pinkalicious is in focus while the other parts are blurry so to highlight the similarities between our princess and the small pink figure. Here we see the love of art, the love of dresses.
After reading, the pricness pretends to be sleeping, but we know that she is not. Notice the small smile, and notice that she is enshrined in her elder’s bedding—not her native pink bedding. This picture features bright lighting to highlight the fact that the lights are still on—the day princess still reigns.
And now that she has been roused from her faux-sleep, the princess is defiant. The next part of the night ritual—visit the toilet shrine for a spiritual cleansing—is not her favorite. The close-up here allows us to appreciate her firm posture and her strong eyes.
Once she’s on, she’s happy. Again a close-up to preserve her modesty.
Back again to reluctance here, as she nears the next stage: ritual teeth cleansing. Here we begin to see fatigue as she leans on the sink for support.
Ahh…and there is the apparatus for the teeth cleansing ritual. Notice it’s regal posture and the imposing shadow behind. You might overlook the princess featured on the tool, but her presences is not missed by our princess Marieme.
The princess here is still working to master her technique for manipulating the tool, and I’ve focused on her hands to reveal the coordination required at such a young age.
Finally, she is ready for bed, and while this shot appears to be princessless, really, the observant viewer will notice several important relics that remind us that she’s here: the pricess hat, necklace, and bracelets handing from the bed poast, the lei on the other side, and the jubilant floral scene adorning the princesses’s bedding.
And now, the lights are off, and we still see the shimmering glory of the princess’s night atitre. This angle allows us to appreciate her regal profile and her peaceful night expression.
And finally, she is actually asleep. This photo was taken well after she fell asleep so as to best capture her naturally angelic face. Truly, Princess Marieme’s night-time rituals reveal both her strong character and her peaceful, truly sweet nature. I can only hope this collection has done her justice.
