What is Podcasting? <ul><li>Podcasting is broadcasting digital/ audio media that can be accessed by anyone with internet access. </li></ul><ul><li>Podcasts can be easily downloaded onto computers, iPods, MP3’s, and many other devices with the proper company that allows this. </li></ul><ul><li>The simplest examples of podcasting are Youtube and slideshares. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Which technologies underpin podcasting? <ul><li>A person that has some sort of digital audio player such as a computer can access podcasts. </li></ul><ul><li>Other technologies that podcasts rely on are web cameras, MP3’s, microphones, images, document files, etc. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Who controls podcasting? <ul><li>A person/ company that controls the server controls the podcasting. </li></ul><ul><li>This person has access to edit or remove the podcast. </li></ul><ul><li>If you want to independently operate your podcasts you need to get your own server. </li></ul>
  5. 5. What current channels of information and media will be affected by podcasting? <ul><li>All channels of information and media can be affected by podcasting. </li></ul><ul><li>Examples of these channels are radio stations, political debates, corporate and record companies, etc. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Who should seek to control these new media channels? <ul><li>Everyone that would like to provide certain information to people all over the world !! </li></ul><ul><li>For example, the government in China recently blocked youtube to prevent people from learning about riots occurring at the time. </li></ul>
  7. 7. How far should freedom of speech be allowed to go? <ul><li>Freedom of speech should be able to reach some extent. </li></ul><ul><li>If someone/ something is being offended or disrespected the podcast should be altered. </li></ul>
  8. 8. To what extent is the validity of a source of information dependent on our ability to identify the author? <ul><li>Pocasting can be very dangerous because it operates just like a Wiki, anyone can post anything they desire. </li></ul><ul><li>The validity of the information depends on the reputation of the source and the amount of trust you put into that information. </li></ul>
