1. MISSION
Established in 2006 the mission of the Young Executives of Color (YEOC)
program is to cultivate the academic potential of underrepresented high
school student leaders in Washington State through college preparation,
powerful mentorship, and the development of real life business skills. YEOC
was established to increase the number of underrepresented students in the
college going pipeline and at the University of Washington Foster School of
Business.
YEOC is a nine-month college pipeline program hosted by the University of
Washington Foster School of Business. The program currently serves 170 high
school sophomores, juniors and seniors from 75 schools in the state of
Washington. Students attend sessions at the UW campus one Saturday every
month. Tuition for the YEOC program is FREE, with the only cost to students
being their transportation to UW Seattle.

2. YEOC DEMOGRAPHICS
In 2006, Young Executives of Color (YEOC) started with
36 high school students representing 17 high schools
and now has grown to 170 participants representing
over 75 high schools. In this year’s cohort, nearly fifty
percent of students will be among the first in their
family to attend college and use this program as a
vehicle to introduce them to business opportunities
and the University of Washington. Furthermore, the
program has graduated over 650 students and 40 UW
student mentors. YEOC’s reach extends outside the
boundaries of Washington State as YEOC alumni are
enrolled at numerous prestigious institutions such as
Stanford University, Harvard University, Brown
University, University of Notre Dame, University of
California Berkeley, Howard University, and George
Washington University. These exemplary students
have a skill set which will take them from successful
students to career professionals.
YEOC is a nine-month college pipeline program
focused on engaging and assisting high school
students of color in a comprehensive curriculum
including: college preparation, professional
development, leadership activities, and lectures rooted
in business disciplines. Throughout the year each
student is paired with a Foster School of Business
undergraduate student mentor who helps them
navigate the program, develop tools for academic and
personal success in high school, and prepare for
college applications and scholarships. YEOC introduces
these students to Foster School of Business staff and
outstanding Foster alumni of color, a collective group
of extraordinary role models.

4. 23 STUDENTS JOIN THE YEOC CLASS
This fall we welcomed 23 UW freshman into the YEOC seminar class. The class
meets weekly: our goals are to expose students to college level business
concepts, gain relationships with UW faculty and staff, and build a strong sense of
community amongst the cohort. Thirteen students are B2
alumni, five students
are Foster Freshman Direct, and one student is from the UW Bothell campus.
Guest speakers this quarter included Associate Dean Steve Sefcik,
Entrepreneurship professor John Hansen, CBDC Assistant Director Lakeisha
Jackson, Foster Academic Advisors, EY Recruiters and more!
YEOC FALL ALUMNI MIXER
During the first week of school we welcomed our newest cohort of YEOC students
to the University of Washington campus. Cohort fifteen was greeted by forty
YEOC program alumni who are now full time students at the University of
Washington and five YEOC mentor alumni. Dinner was catered by Maya’s, a photo
booth and networking activities were planned to encourage cross cohort
collaboration.
VISIT FROM EY SENIOR EXECUTIVE NANCY ALTOBELLO
EY Global Vice Chair of Talent, Nancy Altobello paid a visit to YEOC this Fall. Nancy
previously visited YEOC in 2011 when the program served 110 total. Since then,
the program has grown to serve 170 students and has become a national model
for two university diversity programs in the country. Nancy was hosted by YEOC
program alumni and current students Carlos Barrios, Lander Lee, Kiseri Redi,
Yesenia Velasquez, Bahari Watkins, and Abiel Zewolday.
YEOC MENTOR IN TRAINING (MIT) PROGRAM
The YEOC welcomes seven UW sophomores into the rigorous Mentor in Training
(MIT) program. Each MIT is paired with a current YEOC mentor as a coach to
support their growth and training as a future YEOC Mentor. MITs are tasked with
leading large presentations, coordinating complex activities, and reviewing
personal statements.
THE YEOC TALENT PIPELINE: EY OFFERS
This year fall recruitment has been a busy season for our YEOC Mentors & MITs!
MITs Alvin Benavides, Kiseri Redi, Bahari Watkins and Abiel Zewolday were each
offered EY Launch internships in different cities around the country. Foster
senior, YEOC alum and current YEOC mentor Carlos Barrios has also accepted a
full time offer with EY Seattle in the Transaction Advisory Services practice.

EY BETTER BEGINS WITH YOU GLOBAL PROGRAM
The EY YEOC team was chosen as one of the 20 Global EY finalists in the first
annual Better Begins With You Program to recognize EY legacy builders. The
Better Begins With You award recognizes individuals and/or groups in several
award categories for their contributions and efforts to EY and outside the firm.
The EY YEOC team traveled to London, England and were recognized for their
efforts in the award category of strengthening their communities for the
involvement with the YEOC program over the years.
