4. 4. Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizenship is a notion that is used to dictate how much education students , children, and teachers should have about technology. As technology becomes more common in everyday life it is important that youth are prepared for their future. Another perspective on digital citizenship is responsibility. Self discipline in a technological school setting is crucial for learning to occur. Furthermore, abuse and bad digital citizenship can result in jail time if a law is broken. Internet fraud is a common problem as technology is used to buy and sell goods. Digital citizenship is an important concept that will be a big part of the future that the world should be more concerned about.
5. 5. 5 Examples of Digital Citizenship
Being respectful with my cell phone. Ex. Putting it on silent, avoiding texting, ect.
Plagiarism is a huge problem as technology is broadened. It is important to site your resources properly.
Taking responsibility for anything that you have put on the net . Avoid cyber bullying or positing vulgar or offensive blogs.
4. Staying away from gaming sites during class time and following along with the work schedule.
5. Paying attention during demonstrations on how to properly access or use a site therefore we are prepared for the task when the time comes.
6. 6. Technology in the Classroom
Technology in the classroom can be a constructive part of learning when used properly. In a perfect classroom environment, students would express perfect digital citizenship. Students would not be able to plagiarize any of their work. Computers would be connected to the smart board more efficiently. Students would be able to show the class what was on their computer screen in seconds. Teachers would have a better understanding of what students were doing on the web. This would make class time more time efficient. At LCHS we currently use the “ning” program in order to communicate and share work. However we haven't even began to brush the concept of technology. In the future programs will be designed specifically for classroom learning making it easier on teaching staff and efficient for learning.
7. 7. The Dark Side
1. Students may get distracted easily or get off task if given too much freedom
- A solution would be to block gaming sites and social networking sites
2. Sharing answers and other information. In today's day it is easy to communicate over text message
- Improved cell phone policy and monitoring
3. Time management is a problem when working with computers. Some students will spend all their time formatting instead of working
- Short deadlines ensure students are being pushed to complete work on time
