June 2015 - The following piece was an internal newsletter celebrating the retirement of a fellow
employee. Individual and company names were changed to maintain confidentiality.
John Doe just celebrated his 25th anniversary with RSR, but now it is time to say goodbye and wish him
happiness in his upcoming retirement. With such a long tenure, it is hard to sum up John’s influence on
his co-workers and the company at large, but to use one of his trademark phrases: we’re going to have to
make a long story short…
“Good things come to those who try to help others” is one of John’s mottos, and it is also the reason John
came to be an RSR sales representative. Hoping to help his brother find a new career, both John and his
brother ended up interviewing with RSR in 1990, and while his brother went on to work elsewhere, John
found his home and calling here. Helping others continued to be one of John’s driving principles at RSR,
and his co-workers and customers know him for his generous nature. Co-worker Billie Holiday says John
is a “truly genuine person that will give the shirt off his back to a total stranger,” and others agree that
John has been a positive and helpful force within the office.
A “force” may be the most adequate way to define John as a sales representative. As everyone who has
worked with John can tell you – Johnis loud. Miles Davis laughs as he remembers investing in earplugs
to block out John’s customer conversations five cubicles down. Louis Armstrong also reflects in good
humor, “hardly a day went by that one of my customers wouldn’t ask me if I had the same allocated item
they’d just overheard Doe offer to one of his customers.” John’s volume and humor is much appreciated
by his co-workers and customers, and many learned from John to speak louder, how to form close
working relationships with their customers, and how to succeed as a sales representative.
John is recognized for his exceptional success as a sales representative and for loving his work. During his
25 years at RSR, he established friendships with his customers and serviced some dealers for over two
decades. John helped turn good accounts into great and loyal accounts, such as the Jazz Loft, and it is
evident that John played a large role in the success of the company. John is the type of guy whosqueezes
in that one last sale before the end of the day and is always available to support or give advice to his team.
John enjoys the relationships he’s formed with his customers and co-workers and has had an exemplary
career with RSR Group.
While John will be missed and remembered at RSR, for many years it has been his dream to settle down
on some land just outside of town for his retirement. For the last decade or so John has saved up,
including his collection of gold and silver coins, and his hard work has paid off in the form of a ranch not
too far from RSR’s Texas location. There he plans to begin the next chapter of his life while remembering
his time and friends at RSR. His ranch is rumored to be named “585” – his sales representative number.
