Getting Acquainted With Different Types of Air Compressors

  1. 1. Air compressor is a kind of machine whose work is to capture air and augment its pressure before delivering it further. The pressure is increased by contacting the captured air. 2. 2.  One of the most common types of compressor is the ‘Piston-type’ air compressor. In this type the compressed air is stored in the in-built tanks of the machine. There is a motor that monitors the pressure of the air and automatically shuts down as soon as the required value is achieved. The motor starts again automatically to rebuild the pressure when it drops. In this type of compressor the dealers have two variants to offer, namely single stage compressor and double stage compressor.  Single stage variants feature a single piston that works to build the pressure and are referred to as light duty compressors as they can create the pressure of only about 150 pounds per square inch. People use these air compressors in home as well.  Two stage compressors feature two pistons that work in conjunction to monitor the release and compression of the air. The role of first piston is to primarily compress the captured air whereas the other piston works to compress it further before passing it on to the storage tank.
  3. 3. Then there are compact air compressors that do not feature any piston and neither do they have any in-built storage tank. They are designed to run continuously while offering the air supply at the desired pressure. These units are often used for spray guns and glue guns.
