So…What is inference? <ul><li>To infer is to: </li></ul><ul><li>1. to derive by reasoning; conclude or judge from premises or evidence:  They inferred his displeasure from his cool tone of voice. </li></ul><ul><li>2. (of facts, circumstances, statements, etc.) to indicate or involve as a conclusion; lead to. </li></ul><ul><li>3. to guess; speculate; surmise. </li></ul><ul><li>4. to hint; imply; suggest. </li></ul><ul><li>*thanks dictionary.com for complicating things </li></ul>
    4. 4. Ok, so huh? <ul><li>To infer is to make an educated guess about something based on your previous knowledge , experience , or hints given to you by other outside forces. </li></ul>
    5. 5. What can you infer about this picture?
    6. 6. Well, maybe… <ul><li>The lady is sick. </li></ul><ul><li>She is drinking something hot, possibly tea. </li></ul><ul><li>She is on the phone. Maybe to call out of work. </li></ul><ul><li>She has cold chills, possibly the flu. </li></ul>

    8. 8. Some “educated guesses” <ul><li>Someone will jump onto the tracks and pull her out in time. </li></ul><ul><li>She is good as dead, the train is going to crush her. </li></ul><ul><li>She is going to roll off the track before the train gets her. </li></ul>
