2. Torrents
.torrent files store information on the files shared
with bittorrent protocol
Files stored on sites and are connected to tracker
sites.
Files store various types of info including the URL of
the tracker site, the hash codes of the files it has
and names of the files.
.torrent files are stored on a central server which
leaves the hosting site open to legal issues if the
content is copyrighted.
No longer used
3. Magnets
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Started in 2002.
Has just hash code for the torrent
Uses DHT instead of trackers.
No central server hosting the file. No
legal trouble.
Chrome doesn’t recognize magnets
yet, while Firefox does.
4. What does this mean to you?
NOTHING!
Torrent sites should be around for longer with it being harder to link legal
issues to them.
