What is Consulting?
The Origins of a Consultant
Helping Improving others condition. I used to think we just found people Jobs, until I
tapped in to this industry and got committed.
One day somewhere in the mid-pleistonecene Epoch, (Ice Age) a man was trying to
create a stronger point on his point on his stone spear head, so that he could better
hunt, to feed and protect his clan.
He did this the only way he knew how, which he learned watching his father.
Oneday an exiled clansman, called Conso came across him and observed the work of
the mans spear head, Conso showed him, if he sharpened his spear head on a hard rock
instead of a soft rock, he would get a far sharper spear head in a much faster time.
The method worked the man provided Conso, with food and bed for the night
Consulting had been born.
All Clients know what they want, few know what they need, that difference is your
added value.

The Recruitment Industry and the future
Recruitment consultants have a multi-faceted role. They work as marketers,
networkers, problem solvers, interviewers, and negotiators as they strive to find the
perfect match between job seeker and employer. There’s no telling where the perfect
candidate may be hiding - it’s the recruiter’s job to find them, get them engaged, and
assess their suitability for the role. Once a match has been made, consultants advise
both candidates and hiring managers on issues such as salary, training, benefits and
other practicalities.
While recruitment is a business development role – recruiters are expected to be target
driven and excel in sales – in the end it is a people business and recruiters aim to build
relationships with professionals in the market. This involves gaining trust which takes
time and dedication – something that recruiters should have in spades!
Choosing a career in Recruitment and choosing to perform well, means you can be a
key contributor to an area that has such a high demand & need.
In the next decade and beyond the ability to attract, develop, retain and deploy staff
will be the single biggest determinant of competitive success for most companies.

What do recruiters do?

Is recruitment a good career?
There are plenty of reasons why recruitment careers can be appealing. See below
for some of the highlights we have identified for people who choose to build their
recruitment career with Nucleus
HIGH REMUNERATION
There are strong financial incentives for performance, meaning talented
recruiters can be very well remunerated. The more successful you are in
delivering the recruitment solutions clients need - and hitting your targets - the
better you’ll be rewarded.
VARIETY OF WORK
Recruiting is a varied role in which no two days are ever the same. As a
consultant, you’ve got targets to hit, but you’ve also got a degree of autonomy
and flexibility. On any given day, you could potentially be out and about meeting
clients and running interview coaching sessions or trying to finalise important
deals.
SCOPE FOR DEVELOPMENT
Recruitment companies invest in their staff, knowing they are potentially
the business leaders of the future. There will be scope for training, coaching
and mentorship, in order to help you come onboard successfully, become
acclimatised to the industry and develop your career. And many new entrants
are surprised with the practical business experience they gain – working with
business leaders, assessing their resourcing challenges and tailoring solutions to
help them growth their businesses.

A CHALLENGE
Not everyone can thrive as a recruitment consultant. You need to be an
independent-minded self-starter, have a high level of confidence and developed
communication and influencing skills. It also pays to be driven, creative,
flexible and resilient. The job can be challenging, but there can be immense job
satisfaction - in addition to the extrinsic rewards - when you successfully find
someone a new career opportunity or help a company in its growth agenda.
In summary, agencies are eager to identify the next generation of recruiting
talent, meaning there are plenty of attractive roles available for the right people.
Working as a recruitment consultant, you have the opportunity to really show
what you can do - and be well-rewarded for your achievements, even at an early
stage.
IT’S INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGING
Recruitment is a fascinating and highly consultative sale. It’s not a commodity
sale – we provide solutions that solve our clients’ biggest challenge: sourcing
and selecting key talent. This means that as a recruitment consultant, you have
to have the ability to understand people. diverse business cultures and skill
requirements quickly in order to add value. Good recruiters are indispensable for
hiring managers that are struggling with the fact that good people are hard and
costly to find.
BE THE AGENT OF CHANGE
Being a recruiter gives you an opportunity to change people’s lives. Helping
people land their dream job will make your job purposeful and meaningful. And
even if they cannot secure the job, you can still help them improve their chances
to nail down the next opportunity.
Additionally, you can bring change to the company as well. When you are able to
find the right talent for the right position, you can help the organisation thrive
better in the fierce business competition.

7. What Are the Five Attributes of a Good Recruiter?
INTEGRITY
Integrity lets you build strong relationships with both candidates and
clients. You can thrive in the industry without it, but your career is
going to be short-lived because of it.
LISTENING WELL
The best recruiters are the best listeners and they don’t talk as much
as they listen; the best recruiters’ key in to what’s important to people.
This lets them use that knowledge to their advantage and be able to
respond better to the client or candidate’s specific needs.
ABLE TO THINK ON THEIR FEET
Being a good recruiter means being adaptable to the situation. Since
there are two people on either side, you can expect that situations and
priorities change constantly. If you think on the fly, then you’re dead in
the water as things blow up constantly.
TIME MANAGEMENT
Becoming highly efficient and a master of time, investing your time &
energy in with the right people is paramount to your success, being
able to prioritise your day, work with a disciplined approach will yield
you the inputs and ability to reach your daily goals & targets.
RESILIENCE
The ability to see problems as opportunities, when things go wrong,
not “if” but “when” they go wrong, your ability to turn these in to
positive outcomes.

RECRUITMENT IS A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
OPPORTUNITY DISCUSSED AS A BUSINESS.
Scott Love – Recruitment Trainer
What else makes a good recruiter?
BUILD GOOD RELATIONSHIPS
Building and maintaining long lasting relationships is a huge part of a recruiter’s
day-to-day role.
‘Set yourself high standards and stay consistent. Consistency will create its own
rewards over time and it won’t go unnoticed by your clients, candidates and
colleagues. Gaining a good reputation doesn’t happen overnight and staying true
to your own high standards will enhance long-lasting relationships,’ says Justin.
It’s not just about external relationships with clients, you also need the
skills to build strong relationships with your colleagues. Demonstrating your
communication skills and your ability to be a team player will help you to
manage relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
‘Taking the time to get a good understanding of what is most important to your
clients and candidate will lead to forging better and longer-lasting relationships.’
Having empathy and understanding will show that you consider your client’s and
candidate’s needs, which will help you to gain their trust.

EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY
Over the last ten years technology has changed the way that most industries
operate and recruitment is no different.
HAVE SELF CONFIDENCE
It’s important to your success as a recruitment consultant to demonstrate the
right level of self-confidence. This will improve the way your colleagues view you
and your opinions and ideas will more likely be taken into consideration.
‘Confidence often comes with experience and knowledge,’ Pushing yourself to
learn as much as you can, teaching yourself best techniques and practices and
studying the habits and routines of other successful consultants and people can
help to inspire and increase your confidence levels.’
BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE
Negotiation is a critical part of a recruitment consultant’s role. This is both in
negotiating terms with a client and also when negotiating salaries and job offers
with a candidate. Recruiters serve as the intermediary and it’s your job to come
to a solution that is acceptable to both parties.
‘It’s important that all parties within any negotiation walk away feeling happy
with the eventual outcome, especially if you want repeat business and long-lasting
relationships,’ explains Justin. ‘You need to make sure that you have done your
research, understand the boundaries and get to know your market inside out.
Don’t be afraid to walk away from a negotiation if you can’t achieve your minimum
requirements. Most importantly though have fun making your deals and like
anything practice makes perfect.’

Becoming a Great Recruiter.
Building a great reputation & track record, will help you learn to possess a deep level
of expertise and influencing skills & nuances that most recruiters don’t have, you will
develop the rare ability & unique talent of sniffing out danger areas and uncovering
blind spots, identifying synergistic advantages, advising clients & candidates on more
accurate decisions, this is what it takes to get the deals done, bring great talented
people and businesses together.
In this great industry “cannot afford to be average, there are to many
negatives In this great industry you to reap the benefits, you to be
average, in order “ need to be great, that takes effort & dedication

There are various downsides to being a recruiter like there are
with any role, which could include:
• A high level of competition (which is only bad depending on
your personality and attitude towards work)
• Spending a lot of time in the day talking on the phone, which
can be tiring for some
• Unpredictability in monthly earnings, which may be a cause of
stress
• Commission-focused work, which may also be a source of
stress
• Having to occasionally be available in the evenings or on
weekends for phone calls or emails
• Being a recruiter can involve long hours (especially at the
beginning of your career), which could impact work-life
balance
• You’ll have to deal with rejection, as your candidates won’t
always get the role
• Candidates can change their mind and turn down a job offer
• You will have to deal with difficult candidates (i.e. those who
don’t show up for interviews or who constantly fail to reply to
emails or take your calls)
Based on these pros and cons of working in recruitment, you
should have a sense of whether this career path is suited to your
personality, interests, and goals. If you think you would make an
excellent recruiter, then the next step is to decide which industry
appeals the most to you.

Testimonials
The Recruitment Industry has given me so much, from the great
people I’ve met, the great companies I have had chance to recruit
for and work in partnership with. It has given me the opportunity
to rub shoulders & work with people from all over the world.
Recruitment can help you orientate your life in all areas, giving you
direction, purpose, making you accountability and yielding a good
level of financial freedom & lifestyle for you and your family.
It can give you challenges & adversities that are disguised as
opportunity’s, opportunities to grow and become the best version
of yourself, along with helping other people & organisations work
towards their full potential. This is a great industry, it can be great
for you too, I believe it can help you improve every area of your own
life and the all the people around you.
I’m a search consultant – the detective who researches, builds/
maintains budding professional relationships and who finds
the right people that would most likely never have been found
organically. It’s a challenge, there’s no hiding that part! When I face
difficult times, I try to remember that challenges are not sent to
destroy me. They’re sent to promote, increase, and strengthen me
and my ability to succeed. At the end of it all there is a reward for
ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE involved – the candidate secures the role
they wanted, the client is satisfied with fulfilling the role, Jon is
happy that we all done our job, both businesses profit and me…?
Well, remember that most of us consultants are full of empathy and
happiness for this wonderful process. Solving the challenge and
earning this reward is what makes me happy to work in recruitment
- and don’t forget the commission, that REALLY tends to help…
