2. Our History
Identity Stronghold was founded in 2005 with one
mission in mind: Protect cards embedded with
Radio Frequency Identification chips(RFID) from
unwanted electronic pickpocketing. Along the way,
we’ve created shielded sleeves to protect the US
Government and consumers; quality leather wallets;
and badgeholders to protect US Government ID and
Access cards.
While Secure Sleeves® for ID and Payment cards
ship with each US Government Passport Card, you
should use Secure Sleeves® for Passports to protect
the blue book-type passport which has been
embedded with a long range RFID chip in its back
cover since October 2006.
Identity Stronghold also developed Secure
Badgeholders® for US Government and commercial
building ID and Access cards. Both models, the Classic
and the DuoLite, have a strong following within
government agencies. Identity Stronghold was the
first company to meet FIPS201 requirements and
become HSPD12 compliant.
Our Secure Wallet™ products have each been
designed from the ground up to provide the same
level of protection as our sleeves. Protection is built
right into each wallet, including all the nooks and
crannies, so that sleeves are not required. You are
protected even when the wallet is open.
More recently, we have literally ‘taken to the streets’
to tell the RFID security story to the tens of millions
of US, Canadian and International residents who now
carry these RFID embedded credit cards. As you tour
our website at www.idstronghold.com simply click on
the NEWS tab and review several of the many news
reports that our owner has delivered across the US
and Canada concerning this new identity threat.
Our company has grown and our
product line has expanded, but
our mission has remained the
same: protect RFID-loaded cards,
and the folks who carry them,
from identity theft and payment
fraud.

About RFID
RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, is the technology
that lets you simply wave your card in front of a nearby
reader instead of having to slide it. The electronic
reader sends a signal which is received by an antenna
embedded in the card, which is connected to the card’s
RFID chip, thus activating it.
When scanned, the RFID chip in a credit card emits
all the information, including the account number
and expiration date, that is needed to complete a
transaction. As of 2011, about 12% of all credit cards
now have this technology embedded in them. However,
over the next 2-3 years, the goal of credit card issuers is
to replace every single magnetic stripe credit and debit
card with a new contactless smartcard.
Although the cards work faster and easier, identity
thieves can read your cards before you ever take them
out of your wallet or purse. Those folks are called
identity thieves, and the new RFID technology has made
identity theft quite literally a stroll in the park. Acquiring
your data – called ‘electronic pickpocketing’ – is now as
easy as passing you on the street.
Other RFID Uses and Threats
Many corporations are using contactless cards to
maintain security in their buildings. However, RFID
actually poses a huge threat to that security. Hackers
can use RFID readers to scan and then copy ID cards.
From there, the ‘bad guys’ are in the building.
The Federal Government uses several ID and Access
cards with RFID chips. However, from the beginning,
government leaders were well aware of the threat RFID
posed and required that those cards be protected in a
RFID blocking sleeve or badgeholder.
A growing number of states (New York, Vermont,
Washington and Michigan, to name a few) are now
issuing special driver’s licenses ‘enhanced’ with long
range RFID chips. Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDLs) can
be scanned from your wallet, while you are still in your
car. They make travel across the border a little easier
and unwanted invasion of your privacy much more
convenient.
RFID readers are readily available on the internet at
various sites, often auction sites, where they can be
purchased for very little. Even cell phones are now
being loaded with Near Field Communication (NFC)
which allows users to store credit card data and use the
phone as a contactless credit card.
Many of the smart phone owners download apps
for their enjoyment. However, just like computer
downloads, app downloads can come with trojan
programs riding on-board that can easily read a nearby
credit or debit card and silently email the information to
a distant email address for use later.
Finally, many people do not know that they are
carrying a card with an RFID chip. If you have any of the
following kinds of cards, you may be at risk for identity
theft:
• Debit or Credit Card
• TWIC Card
• Employer ID/Proximity Card
• Enhanced Drivers License
• Government Employee PIV Card
• CAC Card
• Transit Card.
• Passport Booklet
• Passport Card
Your security could be at risk as most of these cards have
RFID chips in them.
Summary
Identity theft is at an all-time high and growing daily.
With all the technology available, and the speed at
which it is distributed, consumers are often unaware
how this new technology can negatively impact their
lives.
Identity Stronghold was the first company to ever
provide protection against the RFID threat, and
continues to expand offerings for consumers and
government agencies.
We always welcome comments and suggestions and
encourage you to visit our site, educate yourself and
acquire the protection you need.
Identity Stronghold. Protection is at Hand.
Corporate Opportunities
We can support your company in a number of ways
that can be useful for you, your employees and
customers.
If you have a contactless access system, your access/
ID cards have RFID chips. Until those cards are secure
on your employees, the cards are susceptible to
unauthorized scanning. This means that a card could
be scanned and ‘cloned’ and the bad guys could be in
your building.
We can solve this issue for you either with Secure
Sleeves®, Secure Badgeholders® or Secure Wallets™.
If your services would benefit from daily exposure
of your brand or list of services, our products can
be custom imprinted with this information. When
given to your customers, these sleeves will reside
in customer wallets and purses, protecting their
credit/debit cards AND giving your company
promotional exposure as those cards are removed
for use, often daily.
Give us a call today and let us help you protect your
business and/or the wealth of your clients.
