Water and You: The Importance of Change

  1. 1. This is a presentation about water .
  2. 2. Well, it’s actually a presentation about you, and water .
  3. 3. And it’s not a political or environmental thing.
  4. 4. (But if it was, that would be okay too.)
  5. 5. You see, water is essential for the survival of all known forms of life.
  6. 6. And water covers 71% of the Earth’s surface.
  7. 7. We are drawn to water…
  8. 8. 80% of Americans live within an hour’s drive of the ocean… National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
  9. 9. And two-thirds of the world’s largest cities are coastal. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
  10. 10. To properly function, the body requires between 1 and 7 liters of water per day to avoid dehydration... "Healthy Water Living" 2007-02-01
  11. 11. And healthy people should have 6-7 glasses of water per day. "Healthy Water Living" 2007-02-01
  12. 12. When we are born, our bodies are roughly 75% water . Jeffrey Utz, M.D., The MadSci Network
  13. 13. When we grow up roughly 55% of our bodies are water . Jeffrey Utz, M.D., The MadSci Network
  14. 14. Jeffrey Utz, M.D., The MadSci Network (Yes, as you sit there, over half of you is water.)
  15. 15. So then, people are mostly water.
  16. 16. But one of the most interesting things about water…
  17. 17. Is that it’s ever-changing .
  18. 18. When a pitcher of water is poured into a glass, the water takes the shape of the glass ...
  19. 19. And when it’s poured back into the pitcher, it takes the form of the pitcher once again.
  20. 20. Water also changes its flow ; like when it needs to run like a river...
  21. 21. Or ripple slowly in a lake.
  22. 22. Water fills up the cracks in nearly any area …
  23. 23. It can move and form itself however needed.
  24. 24. Water changes to be whatever the surrounding environment needs it to be.
  25. 25. OK…
  26. 26. So if people are mostly water, and water is built to change, then this means people are meant to change .
  27. 27. We are meant to adapt , to reconfigure ourselves as needed.
  28. 28. If we’re water , it means we must put ourselves in different situations, we must look for new ideas, and we must not act like we are forever locked into the current state of things.
  29. 29. Because since we are mostly water…
  30. 30. We are built to ever-change .
  31. 31. Just something random to think about. Thanks for reading. johndrake.typepad.com
