  3. 3. Key Survey Findings 1. Consumers with online access to their health information pay more attention to their health. 2. PHR Usage is low, but doubled in two years. One in 14 Americans say they have used PHR. 3. PHR users are young, highly educated and higher income, yet surprisingly, less educated, lower-income and chronically ill patients report greater value from using a PHR. 4. Consumers prefer to use a PHR from their health care provider. 5. Two out of three Americans are concerned about the privacy of their health information; concern is reduced by experience with and benefits received from a PHR. CALIFORNIA HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION

  11. 11. Who Uses and Benefits from PHRs Current users are young, highly educated, higher income. Yet, less educated, lower-income and chronically ill consumers have also discovered benefits from using a PHR, even though they are using it less:  58% of users with income < $50,000 feel more connected to doctor (vs. 31% higher incomes)  55% of users w/o a college degree asked more questions (vs. 26% of college-educated users)  40% of respondents with two or more chronic conditions that use PHRs did something to improve their health (vs. 24% of others interviewed) CALIFORNIA HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION
