Torre of Hackensack, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the HUMC Foundation; and Joseph M. Sanzari of Ho-Ho-Kus, HUMC’s chairman of the Board of Governors. Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) Foundation’s 13th Annual Invitational Golf Outing was recently held at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, honoring the leadership of the New York Football Giants organization, John K. Mara, president and chief executive officer, and Steve Tisch, chairman and executive vice president. The net proceeds of $400,000, from the outing have been designated for the medical center’s Touchdown Fund: Score for Kids, Cardiac and Cancer at HUMC’s Foundation. HUMC is recognized as the “Hometown Hospital of the NY Giants.” “It is truly an honor for all of us to share tonight in honoring John and Steve,” said Joe Simunovich, chairman of HUMC’s Foundation Board of Trustees. “We are excited to announce that on Saturday, October 9, we will host our annual gala at the new Meadowlands Stadium and it will be another celebratory night.”
  2. 2. Mr. Mara made a special effort to partake in the outing as he was also celebrating the birth of his granddaughter, Hailey. “The Giants relationship with HUMC was created in the 80s when David Joseph Jurist of Mendham, a member of HUMC’s Advisory Board of Directors, first invited players to visit children being treated at the Tomorrows Children’s Institute at the Joe M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HUMC. Today, it is my pleasure to present a check for $50,000 to your president and chief executive officer, Robert C. Garrett, to demonstrate the Giants commitment to the medical center.” “What a super day it’s been with good friends and perfect weather,” declared Mr. Garrett of Morris Township. “I’d like to congratulate our honorees and share that all of HUMC is rooting for the Giants to play on their home turf in the 2014 Super Bowl. On behalf of the medical center, I’d like to thank John and Steve personally, as well as the Giants, for all they do for HUMC. We are extremely proud to be partners with one of the greatest organizations in the world.” Mr. Garrett also updated guests on the progress of the new John Theurer Cancer Center expected to open in late fall of 2010, the construction of the Heart & Vascular Hospital, and the ongoing success of the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. The Touchdown Fund was officially “kicked -off” with an on-field announcement at the original Giants Stadium last October. This exclusive charitable partnership, a first of its kind for the New York Giants, raises funds for the HUMC Foundation. “Our goal – similar to the Giants - is to have another record breaking year,” said Robert L. Torre, of Hackensack, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the HUMC Foundation. “The joining of the NY Giants and HUMC Foundation is equivalent to a hometown Pro Bowl. We are proud of this partnership and I am confident we will achieve wonderful things working together.” By becoming a part of the Touchdown Fund, benefactors will have the satisfaction of knowing their donations advance one of the nation’s most comprehensive and progressive medical centers. Touchdown Fund members will enjoy exclusive access to the New York Giants, unique membership benefits, and recognition at the TIMEX Performance Center, the official day-to-day home of the Giants.
