He has been an engineering manager with Raytheon since December 2011. Raytheon Company, with 2014 sales of $23 billion and 61,000 employees worldwide, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, civil government and cybersecurity markets throughout the world. Raytheon is headquartered in Waltham, Mass. Raytheon’s Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) business unit is a leader in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; advanced cyber solutions; weather and environmental solutions, and information-based solutions for homeland security. It also provides training, logistics, engineering, product support, and operational support services and solutions for the mission support, homeland security, space, civil aviation, counter- proliferation and counterterrorism markets. Podpora manages the Space Vehicle Control Software Team, a highly dynamic group composed of twenty-five software engineers. His team is designing and developing software that is critical to the functionality of the next generation GPS (Global Positioning System) ground control software system, known as GPS-OCX. When fielded, the GPS-OCX system will be the most comprehensive software and hardware upgrade made to the GPS constellation in 20 years, with a strong focus on cybersecurity, anti-jamming technologies, control system automation, and increased accuracy of the civilian positioning signal. Podpora joined Raytheon in 2006. He is a graduate of Raytheon’s elite Rotational Engineering Leadership Development Program (RELDP, Class of 2008). He has held a series of roles of increasing responsibility across several business units, including separate assignments within Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) in Massachusetts, Indiana, and Germany; and within Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) in both Washington, DC and Colorado. Podpora is Raytheon EVMS (Earned Value Management System) Level 2 certified. He possesses over seven years of hands-on control account management and project leadership experience across several major defense programs, directly managing budgets ranging between $12 million and $47 million. He is also a Raytheon-certified defense contract proposal estimator. In March of 2014, he was named to Raytheon’s list of high-potential employees, officially designating him among the top 3% of performers within Raytheon’s workforce across all salary grades. A native of Buffalo, NY; Podpora graduated with honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, NY with both a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering technology and a master’s degree in computer science. While at RIT, he served two terms as the elected student senator of the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) and was appointed by faculty to the Institute Appeals Board as a student justice. Podpora was also selected by RIT leadership to serve as the commencement speaker for his college’s graduating class. Biography
