  1. 1. Middle Ages Art <ul><li>When? </li></ul><ul><li>Where? </li></ul><ul><li>What? </li></ul><ul><li>Time period between 476 A.D. to 1450 A.D. Also called medieval period or The Dark Ages. </li></ul><ul><li>This is the period of European history between the collapse of Rome and the Renaissance. </li></ul><ul><li>Medieval art covers a vast scope of time and place: </li></ul><ul><li>Europe, Middle East, North Affrica </li></ul><ul><li>Art was in the form of everything from sculpture, stained glass, and metalwork, to manuscripts and mosaics. </li></ul>

Middle Ages Art Cont. <ul><li>Books </li></ul><ul><li>Setbacks </li></ul><ul><li>The creation of books was a large part of art in the middle ages. </li></ul><ul><li>Books were very labor intensive because paper had to be made from dried animal hides, inks mixed, pens prepared, and pages ruled for lettering </li></ul><ul><li>The Black Death in 1350 created massive setbacks in the development of art in this time period. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Mosaics <ul><li>Mosaic </li></ul><ul><li>The art of creating images with small pieces of glass, stone or other material. </li></ul><ul><li>Summary (2-3 Sentences on what you have learned and/or questions you still have): </li></ul>

Mosaics Cont. <ul><li>Objective: Students will be able to create their own mosaic. </li></ul><ul><li>In our class: </li></ul><ul><li>Small squares will be used to create pictures using color themes. </li></ul><ul><li>8” x 11” paper will be used. </li></ul><ul><li>You can choose to draw your own or use one already created. </li></ul>

Mosaics Cont. <ul><li>If you draw your own, you will need to outline the drawing with a black marker before you begin. </li></ul><ul><li>Place color squares right up next to the lines but not over them. The lines will need to show through when you are finished. </li></ul><ul><li>Taking your time is important. </li></ul>
