  7. 7. SIERRA HEAVY-DUTY 11 UNCOMPROMISING THE MOST POWERFUL ONE-TON V-8 EVER. Sierra heavy-duty pickups offer the power and performance GMC is famous for, beginning with the optional DuramaxTM Diesel 6.6L V-8 Engine. It delivers an extraordinary 660 lb-ft of torque. That makes the 3500HD with the available Duramax Diesel engine the most powerful one-ton V-8 ever 1 and allows it to offer up to an outstanding 16,500-lb trailer weight rating.2 Payload capacity is equally impressive. A 4WD Regular Cab 3500HD, Dual Rear Wheel model equipped with a Vortec 6.0L V-8 Engine provides a sizeable 5,307-lb maximum payload capacity.3 And every GMC heavy-duty truck is backed by the best coverage in America, including GMC’s 100,000 Mile/5-Year Transferable Powertrain Limited Warranty,4 plus 24-hour Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation. SIERRA 2500HD EXTENDED CAB SLT in Silver Birch Metallic shown with available equipment 1 Excludes GM vehicles. 2When properly equipped, maximum trailer weight ratings are calculated assuming a base vehicle, except for any options necessary to achieve the rating, plus driver. The weight of other optional equipment, passengers and cargo will reduce the maximum trailer weight your vehicle can tow. See your GMC dealer for additional details. 3 Maximum payload capacity includes weight of driver, passengers, optional equipment and cargo. 4Whichever comes first. See dealer for details.
  8. 8. SIERRA HEAVY-DUTY 13 ALLISON ® 1000 SIX-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION Sierra heavy-duty trucks with the optional Duramax Diesel 6.6L V-8 Engine use the Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission (below). Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD pickups with the standard Vortec 6.0L V-8 feature the Hydra-Matic® 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission. It has two overdrive gears, which help it offer an excellent balance of performance and efficiency. Both transmissions have a variety of advanced features, including driver-selectable Tow/Haul mode to reduce excessive shifting when towing or hauling a heavy load. DURAMAX DIESEL TURBOCHARGED 6.6L V-8 ENGINE Variable-geometry turbocharger boosts performance over a wide range of operating condi- tions and helps deliver smooth and immediate response. The turbo is high-speed-balanced for minimal noise and vibration, while contributing to the engine’s overall smoothness. Low 16.4:1 compression ratio complements cylinder heads designed to accommodate higher peak cylinder firing pressure for strong, smooth performance. Glow plugs designed to heat up fast through an independent controller for easier starting. For operating efficiency and reduced emissions, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system cools exhaust gases. A Diesel Particulate Filter system traps particulate matter in a honeycomb-like ceramic brick. Designed to run on five percent biodiesel (B5) fuel that meets Ultra Low Sulfur standards. 9. 9. SIERRA HEAVY-DUTY 17 COMMANDING There’s a wealth of technology behind Sierra’s outstanding trailering capabilities. Sierra heavy- duty trucks with the optional Duramax Diesel 6.6L V-8 Engine use the Allison six-speed transmission with tap-shifting. It allows you to activate Tow/Haul mode simply by pressing a button at the end of the shift lever. This feature raises upshift points to use more of the engine’s power for strong acceleration, and raises downshift points to help slow your truck using engine braking. In addition, Grade Braking and Cruise Grade Braking are auto- matically activated in Tow/Haul mode but are disengaged in Range Selection Mode. Both features help you maintain control on down- hills. With Grade Braking, when you tap the brakes, the transmission analyzes speed, accel- eration and engine torque and, if appropriate, automatically downshifts. Cruise Braking (in- cluded only in combination with the Duramax Diesel) functions when you’ve set the cruise control, and detects when you’re accelerating on a downhill and automatically downshifts. 10. 10. 16 SIERRA TRAILERING MADE EASY. Impressive trailering capabilities come standard with every Sierra 1500-series and heavy-duty pickup. With sturdy axles and rugged suspension systems, every Sierra model can be equipped to handle a weight-distributing hitch or, for maximum capability, select models can be equipped with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch. AVAILABLE INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER Sierra 1500-series and heavy-duty pickups offer an optional trailer brake controller (above). It’s completely integrated within Sierra’s electrical system and its antilock braking system. It allows your trailer’s brakes to operate simultaneously with the vehicle’s brakes. The trailer brake controller switch is located on the lower left part of the instrument panel. SIERRA 2500HD EXTENDED CAB SLT in Silver Birch Metallic shown with available equipment
  11. 11. SIERRA 1500 19 TENACIOUS LOOKING FOR EXCEPTIONAL TRAILERING CAPACITY IN A HALF-TON? You came to the right truck. Sierra 1500-series four-wheel-drive Extended and Crew Cab models can be equipped with the optional MAX Trailering Package, which allows them to offer the best maximum trailering capacity in their class — 10,500 lbs. 1 Properly equipped Regular Cab models can trailer up to 8,900 lbs. The MAX Trailering Package includes the 367-hp Vortec 1 6.0L V-8 Engine, a heavy-duty transmission, 9.5-inch rear axle, GM-exclusive Eaton ® Automatic Locking Rear Differential, Z85 handling/trailering suspension, Z82 trailering, heavy-duty air cleaner and heavy-duty transmission oil cooler. SIERRA 1500 CREW CAB SLT in Stealth Gray Metallic shown with available equipment Maximum trailer weight ratings are calculated assuming a base vehicle, except for any options necessary to achieve the rating, plus driver. The weight of 1 other optional equipment, passengers and cargo will reduce the maximum trailer weight your vehicle can tow. See your GMC dealer for additional details.
  12. 12. INDOMITABLE REAR PARKING ASSIST A Rear Parking Assist system (above) is available on 1500-series and heavy- duty SLE and SLT Extended and Crew Cabs and is standard on Sierra Denali. 13. 13. SIERRA 23 CONTROL STABILITRAK® STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM WITH TRACTION CONTROL. The GMC Sierra is designed to handle curves with a firm grip, capitalizing on a wide front track and sturdy frame. That means Sierra can manage the road with handling that feels smooth and crisp, even while carrying a heavy load. A standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System makes sure 1 each tire is properly inflated for optimum handling and control, and warns you which tire is low via the Driver Information Center (does not monitor spare tire; not available on dual-rear-wheel models). In addition, 1500-series models feature the StabiliTrak Stability Control System with Traction Control (standard on Crew Cab; available on Extended Cab). The system has sensors that read the position of your steering wheel, vehicle speed, brake pressure, lateral acceleration and turning rate, then feed the data to an onboard computer. If your Sierra is not responding adequately to your steering input, the computer adjusts engine speed and brake pressure to any individual wheel to help keep you on track. Its rollover-avoidance feature can help mitigate roll forces. Its sensors are programmed to proactively predict and help counteract vehicle “tip-up” on a flat road surface. 14. 14. 26 SIERRA ALL THE BENEFITS OF A STRONG FOUNDATION. The backbone of every Sierra 1500 is a stiff, boxed frame that is thicker in strategic areas for optimum rigidity. In addition, all chassis and drivetrain components are designed and selected to match the frame’s capabilities. The result is confident handling, remarkable payload capabilities and smooth, quiet performance on the highway. Models with Vortec 5.3L or 6.0L Engines have hydraulic engine mounts to help isolate noise and vibration. FRONT HIGH-STRENGTH RAILS RACK-AND-PINION STEERING The front frame is boxed and hydroformed to Rack-and-pinion steering provides precise maximize strength and fit better at bolting performance and an on-center feel. 15. 15. 26 SIERRA 1500 INDEPENDENCE THE ETHANOL ALTERNATIVE. Sierra 1500 Series pickups are available with a Vortec 5.3L V-8 “FlexFuel” Engine that can run on a blend of ethanol and gasoline called E85 (because it’s 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline). E85 is an alternative fuel made mostly in the United States from corn and other agricul- tural products. The FlexFuel engine can run on any combination of gasoline and E85. The Vortec 5.3L V-8 Flex-Fuel Engine produces fewer carbon emissions with E85, with no tradeoff in horse- power or torque. E85 fuel availability varies by state.
