  1. 1. Aliyah Statistics – January – March 2010 This analysis relates to olim who have come to Israel under the care of the Aliyah and Absorption Department of the Jewish Agency. During January to March 2010, 2,940 olim arrived. This is a 14% increase over the same period last year (2,589) not including olim from Ethiopia (34% including Ethiopian olim). FSU, Germany and Eastern Europe During January – March 2010, 1,447 olim arrived from this geographic domain, in comparison with 1,138 in January – March 2009, an increase of 27%. 1,381 arrived from the FSU (35% of all olim during this period). This is a 22% increase over last year. The majority of olim from the FSU are from Russia, totaling 698 (a 23% increase over last year) 322 olim arrived from the Ukraine (a 39% increase over last year). From South Caucasus 95 olim arrived (a 21% decrease over last year). During January – March 2010, 23 olim arrived from Germany, the same number as this period last year.. 43 olim arrived from Eastern Europe, as opposed to last year when 37 arrived. 17 of these olim came from Hungary. English Speaking Countries During January – March 2010, 736 olim arrived from this geographic domain. This is an increase of 2% over the same period in 2009. From North America 454 olim came, as compared to 439 last year, an increase of 3%. From Great Britain 133 olim arrived, a decrease of 17% over this period last year. 41 olim arrived from South Africa, as compared to 39 last year, a increase of 5%. 30 olim arrived from Belgium, as compared to 34 last year, a decrease of 11%. 70 olim arrived from Oceana, as compared to 48 last year, an increase of 46%. Europe and Middle East A total of 447 olim arrived from this geographic domain during January – March 2010, as compared to 425 last year, an increase of 5% over the same period last year. During this period, 303 olim arrived from France, as opposed to 299 last year. This is an increase of 1%. 22 olim arrived from Turkey, as opposed to 29 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24%. 5 olim arrived from Yemen, as compared to 10 during the same period last year. Latin America 309 olim arrived from this geographic domain during January – March 2010, as compared to 294 last year, an increase of 5%. 92 olim came from Argentina, as compared to 59 last year, an increase of 44% 67 olim arrived from Brazil, a decrease of 17% as compared to this period last year. Ethiopia During January- March 2010, 974 olim arrived from Ethiopia. During this period last year only 5 olim arrived. During 2009 a total of only 240 olim arrived due the decision of the Israeli government to halt the aliyah from Ethiopia. 1
