  4. 4. Our History In 1975 Muriel Jordan, Chief Admitting Officer for Presbyterian Hospital and Janie Harrell, Director of Admissions for Charlotte Memorial Hospital attended a convention of the National Association of Hospital Admitting Managers. They returned with a desire to have a statewide Admitting organization in North Carolina. Jordan was referred to Dr. James Camp of the North Carolina Hospital Association to discuss the endeavor. The first statewide meeting of the North Carolina Association of Hospital Admitting Managers (NCAHAM) was held in November 1976 and was sponsored by the North Carolina Hospital Association. Muriel Jordan was elected to serve as the first president of the NCAHAM on November 5, 1976. The name has since been changed to North Carolina Association of Healthcare Access Management to reflect the broadened scope of responsibilities in admitting departments. However, our mission has remained the same.
