Our Mission
Our Mission
Our mission is to improve patient care and community relations
by providing a medium for education, cooperation and
interchange of ideas by North Carolina access management
personnel.
NCAHAM offers unique opportunities for continuing education,
personal achievement, creativity, and professional growth.
These include Certified Access Manager (CAM), Workshops
and Conferences. You'll also have use of the members-only
section of our website which includes healthcare news,
member directory, member forum, publications, and more.
Our History
In 1975 Muriel Jordan, Chief Admitting Officer for Presbyterian Hospital and
Janie Harrell, Director of Admissions for Charlotte Memorial Hospital attended
a convention of the National Association of Hospital Admitting Managers. They
returned with a desire to have a statewide Admitting organization in North
Carolina. Jordan was referred to Dr. James Camp of the North Carolina
Hospital Association to discuss the endeavor.
The first statewide meeting of the North Carolina Association of Hospital
Admitting Managers (NCAHAM) was held in November 1976 and was
sponsored by the North Carolina Hospital Association. Muriel Jordan was
elected to serve as the first president of the NCAHAM on November 5, 1976.
The name has since been changed to North Carolina Association of
Healthcare Access Management to reflect the broadened scope of
responsibilities in admitting departments. However, our mission has remained
the same.
Membership
Our Membership
Currently we have members from over 40 healthcare facilities
across the state. Our membership includes those professions
who work in admissions, registration, scheduling, patient
finance, guest relations and other related services.
Membership applications are now being accepted for the 2016
membership year. Memberships are effective from January 1
to December 31 of the calendar year.
Membership Fee is $100 for the calendar year.
Certification
NCAHAM Certification
 In the fall of 1985 the NCAHAM Board agreed that a certification exam
was needed to provide professional accreditation at the state level. In
June of 1986 the first Certified Access Manager (CAM) exam was
administered at the annual convention in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina.
 Today, the CAM is administered annually at the NCAHAM Educational
Conference. Over 50% of NCAHAM members are currently CAM
certified.
 The cost for the exam is $50.00/members, $75/non-members, payable
prior to the exam. The next certification exam will be administered at the
Spring Educational Conference.
 If you would like to sit for the exam, please contact our Certification
