Powerline - Overview and Highlights

  1. 1. Overview & Highlights
  2. 2. Executive Summary • What is it? Powerline is a mobile app and web platform that provides leaders and communities with the tools they need to interact effectively in any kind of community • How does it work? Leaders can send polls, petitions, discussions, fundraisers, crowdfunders, events, announcements, and more directly to their communities. Users can create petitions or posts in their groups for a “Twitter for your group”-like experience complete with social follows, boosting, hashtags, and discussions. Users are automatically linked to their town, state/province, and country communities, but can create or join any group they’d like. • What makes it special? Powerline serves large group (50+ people) scenarios in a way no other technology does using purposeful notifications, sorting, linking, boosting, and toolsets specifically designed for leader-community relationships. • How does it generate revenue? Groups are available at the free, silver, gold, and platinum subscription tiers. Fundraising transaction fees, including for town crowdfunding campaigns, are also charged on a volume and per-transaction basis.
  3. 3. What is Powerline? A mobile app and web platform that provides leaders and communities with the tools they need to interact and engage more effectively to literally change the world. CommunityLeaders Fosters Meaningful Dialogue, Feedback, and Action Creates Engaged, Informed Communities Results in Stronger Relationships and More Effective Leaders
  4. 4. The Problem(s) • Current platforms aren’t designed for large group interactions, leader-community relationships, or democracy – tons of organizations are using technology that was literally not designed for them. • Disparate systems with narrow focus and limited capability have limited appeal to leaders, citizens, organizations, and the media alike; many solely for politics or for ‘single use’ campaigns. Too many internal solutions with no users. • No easy or accessible way to lead, mobilize, organize, and engage in the millions of communities that we’re in or that we lead without needing lots of resources, time, or disparate solutions • A lack of purposeful infrastructure prevents us from breaking through the noise to act individually and collectively around our common issues locally and globally
  5. 5. Why do we need Powerline? Take a moment to learn more about the theory and thinking behind Powerline – democratic infrastructure as a service for any kind of community or organization! Founder Jesse Chen gives a TED Talk on “Redefining Democracy for People’s Power”
  6. 6. The Solution • Tools: Polls, Petitions, Discussions, Announcements, Fundraisers, Events, Community News, Social Sharing, Reporting provide a streamlined toolset for easy action • Purposeful Design: Push Notifications, Newsfeed Sort, and UI ensure leaders can break through the noise and people can stay engaged • Innovation: Micropetitions; auto-linking to elected leaders and town, state, and country communities; and 3rd-party APIs empower users • Appealing: A “Twitter for your town/large group” communications platform provides a valuable exchange for leaders and everyday people alike Powerline is an open, social, freemium SaaS mobile app and web platform that empowers leaders and communities with the simple tools needed to lead, influence, organize, and engage in collective action. Newsfeed Poll Petitions Web Presence Discussions The “Magic” • Leader Notifications & Sorting • Multiple Tools & Communities Analytics
  7. 7. The Landscape We need a purposely designed communications platform that simplifies engagement and empowers leaders and citizens of all kinds of communities to break through the noise and engage… Facet Perspective Market Solutions Facebook is for friends, LinkedIn is for professional networking, Twitter is for public discussions and PR, Snapchat for sexting, WhatsApp is for small groups, Yammer for enterprise, NationBuilder for campaigns etc. Clear Opportunity No technology guarantees ability to break through the noise with a multi- functional “power line” between a leader and a constituent useful to both sides and both government and non-government communities. No technology serves the needs of users who are part of many large groups (e.g. towns, non- profits, unions, etc.) Top “Competitor” is a Partnership Opportunity NationBuilder is awesome, but it treats the symptoms (not the root cause) and serves leaders’ needs, not people’s needs in general. We envision being a plugin available to NationBuilder users Mobile Advantage Some of the most popular mainstream platforms were designed web-first for non-group purposes; we’re designed mobile-first (strategic push notifications and UX)
