  2. 2. What Is Social Networking?<br />It's the way the 21st century communicates today<br />Function<br />Social networking websites function like an online community of internet users. Depending on the website in question, many of these online community members share common interests in hobbies, religion, or politics. Once you are granted access to a social networking website you can begin to socialize. This socialization may include reading the profile pages of other members and possibly even contacting them. <br />Definition & Function<br />

Cyworld<br />Cyworld is a South Korean social network service operated by SK Communication. <br />Members cultivate relationships by forming ”Ilchon” or "friendships" with each other through their minihompy.<br />Revenue is generated through the sale of dotori or "acorns", which can then be used to purchase virtual goods, such as background music, pixilated furniture and virtual appliances.<br /><CyworldDotori><br /><Minihompy><br />

Twitter.<br />Twitter is an online social networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to sent and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, informally known as “tweets”. <br />Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. Twitter rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with 200 million users as of 2011, generating over 200 million tweets and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. <br />

Face Book.<br />Facebook is a social networking service and Web site launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. As of July 2011, Facebook has more than 800 million active users. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. <br />Facebookwas founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitzand Chris Hughes<br />

It had about 30 million registered users in 2010 and as of May 2011, it ranks the 134th most popular website worldwide and 22nd in China according to Alexa Internet. <br />
  8. 8. Why do people like it?<br />1. Identity<br />The number one reason why people join a social network is identity says ShamaHyderKabani, author of The Zen Of Social Media Marketing. It’s to showcase who they are. We join a social network because it says something about us.<br />2. Connections<br />The number two reason why people join social networking sites is to connect with others. We want to build relationships.<br />3. Community<br />The number three reason why people join social networking sites is community.<br />
