“Inukshuk”The mysterious stone figures known asinuksuit can be found throughoutNorthern Canada. Inukshuk, the singularof inuksuit, means "in the likeness of ahuman" in the Inuit language. They aremonuments made of stones that are usedby the Inuit for communication andsurvival. The traditional meaning of theinukshuk is "Someone was here" or "Youare on the right path.“The Inuit make inuksuit in different formsfor a variety of purposes: as navigationor directional aids, to mark a place ofrespect or memorial for a belovedperson, or to indicate migration routes orplaces where fish can be found.
