RANDY BOYD CLOSES UNITED WAY’S 2014 COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN
ANNOUNCES VICTORY
PRESS RELEASE
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.(January29) – Thanksto the generosity of the community,anddedication
fromhundredsof volunteers, UnitedWay’s2014 campaignhasreached the historic$13M goal
setin August,withthe actual numberreaching$13,003,285. Randy Boyd, 2014 CampaignChair,
announced the victorythisafternoon atthe UnitedWay offices, infrontof a groupof volunteers
and donors.
“I am extremelyexcitedtobe able toannounce thisvictorytoday.I am excitednotonlyforthe
volunteerswhoworkedsohardto helpme reach thisgoal,butalsofor the communitythatwill
benefitfromsuchgenerosity,”saidCampaignChair,RandyBoyd.
He wentonto say, “Whenwe announcedthe thirteen-million-dollargoal onAugust28th
of last
year,I knew itwas goingto be a mammothundertaking. ButI alsoknew thiscommunitycould
do it. And we did! I am proud and honored tohave heldthe role of campaignchair, and I am
proudof thiscommunityfor reachingthishistoricgoal forUnitedWay of GreaterKnoxville. AsI
saidin the campaignvideo,Ibelieve thereisonlyone degree of separationbetweenusand
UnitedWay; we needUnitedWayand UnitedWayneedsus. Thank youto everyone who
donatedmoneyandtime tomake this2014 campaigna success.”
Board Chair,TommySchmidsaid,“We are so grateful tohave had Randyas our campaignchair
thisyear. Despite hisbusyschedule,he managedtovisitall 47 agencies,implemented and
achieved twofirst-time effortsthatdirectlybenefittedthe community,andleadustothis
historicvictory. He has workedtirelesslyforUnitedWayof Greater Knoxville anddemonstrated
impressiveleadership. IknowI speaknotonlyfor myself,butforthe staff andall of our
volunteerswhenIsay,ithas beena privilegetowork withRandyonthis campaign.”
The two first-time effortsMr.Schmidreferredtowere the Transformational Project,which
raised$200,000 to support HelenRossMcNabbCenter’sVeteransHousingProject,andthe
securingof giftsfromtwentygenerousdonorstobe earmarkedtocoverthe campaign’s
operational costs,therebyallowingone-hundred-percentof fundsraisedto directlybenefitthe
community.
The announced$13,003,285 total is basedoncash collected,pledgesyettobe fulfilled, and
some projects withresultsof whichwe are still awaiting.
DonationsraisedduringUnitedWaycampaignsare usedto fundcommunityprogramsthat
supportour three mainfocusarea of education,health&basicneedsandincome &basic needs.
