IPAD?? MOTOROLA XOOM? ETC..
Before we get started, we must choose a type of
tablet to use. Personally, I am a fan of the
Motorola Xoom because I like the android
operating system better. However, I am
choosing the Ipad to learn about in this
presentation because it is the most widely
recognized of the tablets.
HOW TO USE AN IPAD
First, you muse set up your iPad. Turn on your iPad and follow the
prompted “Setup Assistant.” (It will come with a handbook)
The Setup Assistant guides you through the setup process, including:
• Connecting to a Wi-Fi network
• Signing in with or creating a free Apple ID
• Entering a passcode
• Setting up iCloud and iCloud Keychain
• Turning on recommended features, such as Location Services and Find
My iPad (Apple Guide)
ESTABLISHING AN APPLE ID
Your Apple ID is the user name for a free account that lets you access Apple services, such as the
iTunes Store, the App Store, and iCloud. You need only one Apple ID for everything you do with
Apple. If you have an Apple ID, use it when you first set up iPad, and whenever you need to sign in
an Apple service. If you don’t already have an Apple ID, you can create one when you’re asked to
sign in. Apple
Create an Apple ID. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and tap Sign In. (If you’re already
signed in and want to create another Apple ID, first tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.)
For more information, see support.apple.com/kb/he37.
Set up mail and other accounts
iPad works with iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, and many of the most popular Internet-based mail,
contact, and calendar services.
If you don’t already have a mail account, you can set up a free iCloud account when you set up
iPad, or set one up later in Settings > iCloud. See iCloud on page 15.
Set up an iCloud mail account. Go to Settings > iCloud.
Set up another account. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars (Apple Guide)
GETTING FAMILIAR WITH YOUR DEVICE
After getting your ipad set up, the best way to learn in more detail about it,
is to simply play with it. I know that sounds like horrible advice, but it’s
the best technique.
Explore the apps that come on the tablet, and open them up to check them
out. It will come with apps like:
NOW THAT YOU’RE FAMILIAR..
Now that you’re familiar with your device,
it’s time to figure out how to use it to
benefit you and your business. You’d be
surprised at just how handy this tablet
can be for you in the agriculture world.
TABLETS IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY
I am going to use the Dairy Industry as my example for how tablets can
help your business.
Every dairy farmer is their own unique business!
Even though the concept of milking cows is virtually the same no matter
who’s farm you’re on, each individual owner/operator had their own way
of going about things.
A TIDBIT OF DAIRY KNOWLEDGE FIRST
There are typically two types of dairy farms
Dairy Farms range in a wide variety of sizes (10-10,000 cows)
There are 6 dairy breeds and many farms will have more than one breed on
Holstein cattle are the most popular ;19 million plus are registered with
their association , followed by Jersey’s; 621,000 registered. (US
(For the purpose of this demonstration, I will be using a registered herd
mixed of Holstein and Jersey cattle)
PROMOTING YOUR HERD
You can utilize your tablet by promoting your herd of registered Holstein
and Jersey cattle in several ways.
Your tablet connects to the web via WiFi
By being able to connect to the net at any location, this makes for a
convenient way to publicize your cattle through various options.
One of the most popular form of social media these days is Facebook.
Using your Ipad, you can create a Facebook page for your farm.
Remember a few slides ago when I said to play with your Ipad and open
the apps?? One of the apps installed on it is a camera! You can take
pictures of your farm, employees, and CATTLE right from your tablet,
and then upload them to your farm Facebook page. This is a wonderful
feature in the sense that you no longer have to take pictures from a
phone or camera, upload them to a computer, and then to the web. You
can do all of this on the go!!!
SHOWING THEM THE NUMBERS
One of the neat things you can do with your tablet is being able to pull up
all of your cows DHIA records whenever you want with the DHIA app
that you can install. This is probably the best thing to happen to the
dairy industry in recent years as far as promotion of cattle goes.
I love this feature because it eliminates having to carry around each cows
individual papers when people come to the farm to look at cows, or are
inquiring about a cow at a show, or whatever the scenario. Now, all you
need is your tablet, and everything anyone would want to know about
any cow on your farm is right there at your fingertips! All you need to do
is open the app, enter the cows name or number, and eureka- her info is
Other perks to having the Ipad is that you can also keep other valuable
information on it:
Groups of Cattle
With your tablet, you have unlimited power to
better promote your farm and your herd of
cattle. I hope that this presentation not only
enlightened you on learning how to operate a
tablet, but also gave you inspiration to promote
yourself, your farm and the dairy industry using
your new tablet!!
