UMass Medical School Energy Efficiency Projects • Work to continually improve campus energy usage – LED lighting in two parking garages – Building Commissioning – Expanded natural gas fired Combined heat & power plant (CHP) • Generate up to 90% of electricity on campus • Generate all heating and cooling • UMass Medical received $8.3 million in incentives from  National Grid 2012‐2013 • Annual Electric savings resulting from projects:  – 67 million kWh – 46,000 Metric Tons of Carbon October 15, 2013 4

Resource Management 2013 • Major sustainability goal is to increase recycling rates for  UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Healthcare • In 2013, signed a new resource management contract with  E.L. Harvey • Shared goals to increase recycling rates – Training, education – Equipment solutions to make it easy – Monthly reporting • First six months, recycling rates are starting to increase • New branding campaign: in the bin
