Overweight trucks -- A Danger To Alabama Drivers

Download to read offline

Overweight commercial trucks put all drivers at risk of needless injury or death. Overloaded trucks are a danger on Alabama's major highways. They are also a danger on Alabama's many rural roads frequented by overloaded logging trucks. Overloaded trucks are more difficult to steer and control. Overloaded trucks take longer to brake and stop. The additional weight also puts pressure on tires which can cause dangerous blowouts. Overweight loads also increase the risk of cargo shifting or spilling. This leads to truck instability. Trucking companies and their drivers should operate their trucks carefully and safely. Most do. Yet, a few negligent and reckless trucking companies put all of us at risk. Safety should be the number one priority of everyone on our roads and highways.
