How a PhD is like Alice in Wonderland

  1. 1. How a PhD is like Alice in WonderlandJodie MartinSlideshare.net/jayelemTwitter.com/jodie__martin
  2. 2. Because it is the nature of theresearch - the deeper you getthe stranger it gets and thestranger you get. And thenyou fall down the rabbit hole.
  3. 3. We all struggle with our researchbeing too big, too small, with who weare as PhD students being too big,too small. And obeying labels. It seems every text screams “README!” and we print, photocopy, scan, download and/or save it, even if wenever end up reading it.
  4. 4. We’re late! We’re late! For a very important (submission) date! The biggest date is the final thesis submission and sometimes it seems like the story of the student who submitted on time is an urban myth.
  5. 5. You know its true. You haveto be a little mad to delveinto one tiny corner of atopic that nobody else haslooked at for three to sevenyears. But that’s okay.
