THEORIES / METHODS USED IN EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY •Computer Assisted Language Learning – CALL •Computer Assisted Language Teaching – CALT •Computer Assistant Instruction – CAI •Computer Assisted Learning – CAL •Computer Based Instruction – CBI •Computer Directed Instruction – CDI •Computer Managed Instruction – CMI
In the Natural Language Processing Method, languageapproach levels are as follows:•Phonology•Morphology•Lexical•Syntactic•Semantic
V. CORPUS IN LANGUAGE LEARNING•Language teaching course books based on corpus usuallyrefer to more common and frequent examples over rare ones tobe more accurate in description and effective in teaching. Evenin traditional manner, corpus is useful for providinginformation regarding use of lexical collocation inunderstanding patterns of word use (Gavioli 2004).
VI. CORPUS LINGUISTICSA. WHAT IS A CORPUS?B. GENRE OF TEXTC. NATURE OF DATAD. PURPOSE OF DESIGN E. DETERMINATION OF TARGET USERS F. METHOD OF DATA INPUT G. CORPUS IN LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY H. VALUE OF CORPUS IN LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY (LT)
I. FOR DESIGNING LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY TOOLS •Word processing system •Spell checking system •Text editing system •Morphological processing system •Sentence parsing system •Frequency counting system •Item-search engine •Text summarisation system •Text annotation system •Information retrieval system •Concordance system •Sentence parsing system •Word Sense Disambiguation system •WordNet design (synset) design •Semantic Web or Semantic Net •Parts-of-Speech Tagging system •Local Word Grouping system
J. POTENTIAL UTILISATION OF CORPUS•Language specialists (interested in the language of the texts)•Content specialists (interested in the content of the texts), and•Media specialists (interested in corpus as test bed for electronic devices).
VII. Conclusion VIII. SuggestionsThe Future need is to collect the Corpora for each standardTamil Language text books and make a MorphologicalAnalyzer is must for the effective Tamil learningand teaching through the computer in the class room environment.
