Self control

 1. 1. SELF-CONTROL
THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE
2. 2. What is Self-Control?
It is the ability to control one’s emotions over things that are way too much to bear.
It is the capacity of a person to permeate goodness instead of otherwise.
It is the projection of pure discipline and maturity.
3. 3. Self-Control vs. Control Oneself
Self-Control begins with oneself. ‘Control oneself’ focuses on others and ends with oneself.
Self-Control focuses on DISCIPLINE. ‘Control oneself’ concentrates on DOMINANCE.
Self-Control shows HUMILITY. ‘Control oneself’ shows PRIDE.
4. 4. The MAIN Difference
Self-Control and ‘Control Oneself’ has one main difference. ONE.
The ONEness or UNITY of SELF and CONTROL is what it makes a Christian a true worshiper of God.
It’s not about multiplication or addition that makes a masterpiece from a block of wood. It’s about subtraction and scraping the unessentials that matters.
5. 5. God’s Masterpiece
We are God’s piece of wood ready for His making; for His purpose.
6. 6. God’s Masterpiece
We are God’s piece of wood ready for His making; for His purpose.
God is our Sculptor; chipping away the unessentials.
The chipping ends until...
7. 7. A Masterpiece is Born...
8. 8. A Masterpiece is Born...
9. 9. A Masterpiece is Born...
10. 10. The Lord’s Way
The reason why the Lord is taking away the unessentials or excess baggages in our lives is so that we may be the proper vessels of His Light and blessings.
That our light will so shine before men, that they may see our good works and glorify the Father, which is in heaven (Matt. 5:16).
11. 11. Attaining Self-Control
Be WORTHY of being God’s masterpiece: keep thyself unspotted from the world (James 1:27)
Be a WORSHIPER of God: abide in the tabernacle of God (Psalms 15)
Be a WORKER of God: dwell in the holy hill of God (Psalms 15)
12. 12. Showing Self-Control
Think of this word J-O-Y
Jesus first
Others next
You last
Will your emotions or actions affect your JOY?
13. 13. The Self-Controlled Christian
IMMOVABLE (Psalms 15)
GOOD EXAMPLE (Matthew 5:16)
The IMAGE of GOD is clearly SEEN because of the WALK AFTER THE LIKENESS OF GOD.
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48).”
“Because it is written, Be ye holy for I am holy (1 Peter 1:16).”
14. 14. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:5-8
15. 15. The key to Self-Control
DISCIPLINE
HUMILITY
