2. Box office and critics
• The film was a commercial success, from a $200m budget, the film made $1.067b
overall. Thus making a profit of $800m, showing that the advertising campaign was a
success because of the massive profit that was made.
• Critically the film was a success. With the film receiving a 98% approval rating on Rotten
Tomatoes, this is surreal as RT are one of the most revered critic websites (Along with
Roger Ebert, with many people going to RT to establish whether they should watch a
certain show/movie. This proves that RT are the source for many people on shows and
films, so to get almost a 100% rating is very impressive even by Toy Story standards as
RT’s critics are renowned (and criticised occasionally) for being hard to please. And out of
299 reviews on RT, 294 of them sing the movies praises, with some criticising the product
placement and believes this movie celebrates consumerism.
• Peter Bradshaw, of the Guardian gave it a 4/5 stars proclaiming that it is the ‘perfect
family movie’ and says that the intro to this film is the best in recent Pixar history
• Non-professional critics also sung the films praises, Kiko Martinez of the San Antonio
Current writes that this film was the perfect way to end of the trilogy, and he proclaims
that Pixar are on a level of their own, which is hard to argue with.
