Historical Documents often used or sought by Genealogists Census records City Directories – done in many cities since the 1700s Marriage certificates/marriage bonds Birth and death certificates Wills and Property deeds – most often found at county courthouses Court/Criminal records Military service records – individual service records, unit histories Family Bibles—often recorded family members and events— marriages, birth, baptisms, deaths Baptismal records Diaries and letters Immigration records – passenger lists, naturalization records Photographs Newspaper articles – news reports, family announcements This is by no means a comprehensive list--there are many other possibilities!
