Research & analyses

  1. 1. To gather my research for my questionnaire I had 50copies of my questionnaire ready to hand out to thegeneral public. I went to Acocks Green and Solihulltown centre to get my questionnaires filled in by thepublic. It was difficult to manage to get 50 people tofill in my questionnaire. As a result of this I managedto get 30 of my 50 copies filled in, I thought thiswould be enough for my research. I asked a rangeof different questions about documentaries and thestatus of the person I asked. I gathered informationon the people I asked and what they like to see in adocumentary. For each question the person I askedcould tick 1 or more boxes in my questionnaire.
  2. 2. From the results of thisBy what you can see by the results of questionnaire it shows that themy questionnaire is that more females majority of the people I asked wereanswered the questionnaire as either aged between 12-18 or 19-opposed to males. Out of the 30 25. From the 30 people I asked inpeople I asked, 60 % were females my questionnaire 37% were 12-18,and 40% were males. 30% 19-25, 23% 26-39 and 10% aged 40 or older. As it shows my questionnaire is based on younger people.
  3. 3. Out of the 30 people I asked in myAs you can see from my research a research most people stated otherhigher number of people I asked rather than picking manual, are students rather than being in professional or public service. Thework or unemployed. Out of the 30 majority of these people havepeople I asked 43% are students, different types of jobs to the obvious27% are in part time work, 27% in types. In my research only 23% of thefull time work and only 3% are people I asked did manual work, 10%currently unemployed. This shows had a professional job, 20% were inthat my main target audience are public service and the other 47% hadgoing to be students. a different occupation to the ones stated.
  4. 4. For this part of my research I wanted I asked in my questionnaire ‘what isto find out how many hours a week your favourite type of program?’. I gavepeople watched television. Out of the the option of soaps, drama,30 people I asked 20% watched 0-5 documentary, game shows or other.hours, 30% watched 6-11 hours, Out of the 30 people I asked 30% liked40% watched 12-20 hours and 10% soaps, 35% liked drama, 17% preferredwatched 21 or more hours a week. documentary, 10 % game shows andSo the majority of my sample 8% preferred another type of program.watched television for 12-20 hours aweek.
  5. 5. Now that I know my whole sampleI knew most people have more than have watched a documentary I wantedlikely watched at least 1 to find out how man hours a week theydocumentary but I wanted to make spent watching one. From my resultssure so I asked if they have on my 9% don’t spend any time in a weekquestionnaire. 30 out of 30 have watching one, 38 % watch at least 1watched a documentary so I now hour a week, 31% spend 2 hours aknow what a documentary consists week watching a documentary, 19%of. spend 3 hours a week watching one and 3% spend 4 hours watching a documentary.
  6. 6. I know many different channels showdocumentaries, so in my questionnaire As technology has evolvedI wanted to find out what channels documentaries can now bepeople prefer to watch documentaries accessed online by demand likeon. Most of the people I asked put 4OD, BBC iplayer and ITVdown two choices. For any BBC player. So I wanted to knowchannel 20% prefer to watch a how people accesseddocumentary on this channel, 12% for documentaries. The majority ofITV, 21% for channel 4, 7% for the people I asked stated theychannel 5, 13% for discovery, 11% for accesses them on TV as 67%national geographic, 7% for history said this, 24% accesses themchannel and % for sky sports as there on the internet, 9% on Xboxpreferred channel. 360/ps3 and 0% for other.
  7. 7. Most importantly I wanted to know what peoples favourite topicswhere in a documentary. As you can see above I gave the optionof all these topics in my questionnaire. The people I asked couldstate more than 1 choice in the questionnaire. Out of the 30 peopleI asked 17% like crime, 15% sport, 12% culture, 4%cities/countries, 3% liked politics, 12% health, 12% food, 6%military, 12% science and 7% liked natural world. As most crimeand sport had the highest percentage I knew it was more thanlikely the most interesting topics for a documentary and what mytarget audience would like to see in my documentary.
