2. First Films in Noir Film Noirs tend to portray Hollywood crime dramas. Film Noirs were made mostly in the 1940’s and 50’s with films such as “The Big Combo” and “The Big Sleep”. However, recent film noirs like “Se7en” are known as Neo-Noirs which are more updated and are in color. Unlike traditional film noirs which were in black and white.
3. Conventions of Film Noir The conventions of film noir were first instituted with the first film noir. The conventions include: smoking, drinking, rain, a corrupt cop, a femme fatale, a bad guy, set in the city and always set in a dark setting. Stories of film noirs are also very similar, they include a story line of a corrupt cop defeating a bad guy and in the end getting the femme fatale.
