Page 2 FRSA FLASH Fort Drum to open additional gates during morning hours Beginning Monday January 30 two additional gates on post will open during morning hours to give motorist alternate access to the installation and air field and help relieve morning traffic congestion. The Nash gate on NYS Route 26 across from the Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield and the gate at Munns Corners and NYS Route 3a in Deferiet will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday to Department of Defense ID cards holders only. The opening of the Nash gate is expected to ease traffic along NYS Route 26 in Great Bend. The gate in Deferiet will provide an alternate route to the airfield. These gates will not be open during the weekends or holidays. The other six access gates will remain unchanged. Mt. Belvedere, Iraqi Freedom, Gas Alley and Wheeler-Sack gates are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Black River gate is open Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.Fort Drum Tax Assistance Center offers free tax returnThe Fort Drum Tax Assistance Center is scheduled to open Tuesday. Staffed by IRS trained and certifiedSoldiers, the TAC will prepare and electronically file your federal and state income tax returns free ofcharge. By filing your return electronically, you can receive your refund in as little as one week.Part of the Legal Assistance Office and the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, the TAC staff assists active-duty Soldiers, mobilized Reservists on active duty for more than 29 days, retired service members andtheir Families.Under Army regulations, self-employed taxpayers and those involved in other private business activitiesare not eligible for tax assistance services. (Family Child Care providers remain eligible.)The TAC staff also is equipped to prepare 2010 returns for Soldiers returning from deployment who werenot able to file last year.Located on South Post at the corner of Lewis and Conway / First Street West in Bldg. T-120 (near theAAFES gas station and across the street from Behavioral Health), the TAC will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 7p.m. Monday through Friday.Beginning Monday, you may call 772-6727 to schedule a next business day appointment. Throughout taxseason, the appointment line will open at 1 p.m. each day and will remain open until all appointments arefilled for the next business day.The following documents are required to schedule an appointment: Military ID (Common Access Card) Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration. At Jefferson Community College! The college’s annual Super Science Saturday event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 4. Although the event is designed for students in grades 5-8, all family members are welcome to attend. Admission is free. Super Science Saturday is a celebration of math and science and an exploration of science careers with interactive exhibits. Students will have an opportunity to explore and see how much fun science can be by participating in hands-on demonstrations. JCC faculty members, assisted by current students, will give demonstrations in animal management, chemistry, biology, geology, math, engineering and health- related careers. The event will feature a chemistry magic show presented by James Peploski of Clarkson University and a laser and rainbow show presented by Thomas C. Altman. Additionally, several community organiza- tions will be on hand to share career information and provide interactive activities with students. Super Science Saturday will take place at JCC in the Jules Center, McVean Student Center and the Guth- rie Science Building. Concessions, parking, a campus map and programs will be available.
