  4. 4. Motivation/problem • The agriculture value chain concept is not new. But, since new unpredictable environments (weather, economy, technology, etc.), it has become difficult to manage, also difficult to compare to similar cases. • There is a lack on global agriculture value awareness and Knowledge Management. • There is a lack on participative and collaborative ICT developments. • There is no validated framework for supporting agribusiness and risk management under high uncertainty and unexpected events.   5. 5. ⚜ Overall aim: From the genetic design of the seed, till their planting and harvest processes, considering the Farmers desired productivity as well as the expected end-customer service level, RUCAPS aims to provide a knowledge advancing in agriculture based-decision making through the development of a high impact research in terms of integrating real-life based agriculture requirements, land management alternatives for a variety of scales, unexpected weather and environmental conditions as well as innovation for the development of agriculture production systems and their impact over the end users under participatory ICT developments.   6. 6. ⚜ Methodology: Through a multi-disciplinary and multi- sector approach, RUCAPS research methodology is to be based on research collaboration and secondments among multidisciplinary cross-sector and cross-institution beneficiaries from international point of view. Thus, through the generation of work-packages, aligned with the core objectives from RUCAPS, the full agriculture value chain decision-making is to be covered from theory and practice.   7. 7. ⚜ A decision support systems to efficiently use ICT’s for horticulture production. ⚜ Reports based analysis to support the understanding of the horticulture product responses to resources stress. ⚜ Models to inform land management alternatives under unexpected emergency conditions to farmers. ⚜ A generic predictive models nutrient fluxes in the soil profile by using the current knowledge from nutrient cycling and the moderating role that biodiversity implies. ⚜ Horticulture characterization models for the cropping developments for enhancing sustainable horticulture operations, supply chain and knowledge management.   8. 8. ⚜ Characterisation of the role of wetting and drying cycles on the release of nutrients from microbial biomass in productive agricultural soils. ⚜ Establish new solutions for harvesting key agricultural products covering genetic seed design and its link to the agriculture value chain. ⚜ Analyse the contribution that bio-solids products could make to deliver resilient crop production systems. ⚜ Establish standard mechanism to use molecular markets to allow cropping physiology to be matched against catchment features (e.g. soil type, drainage, etc).   9. 9. ⚜ To support the varietal behaviour in a variety of agro-climatic zones in terms of cost and production cycle. ⚜ To optimise the agronomic management by understanding the incorporation of specialized machinery in the processes of sowing, transplanting and fertilizing. ⚜ To analyse and refine quality standards to ensure the safety of the final agriculture based product under high risk and uncertain conditions. ⚜ To evaluate the environmental conditions for enhancing soil management technologies and planting management. ⚜ To model and optimise smarts and innovative collaborative production-transport planning solutions of horticulture products across the full value chain structure. ⚜ To generate horizontal and vertical knowledge exchange mechanisms across the agriculture value chain.
