An Ultimate Guide to Different Literary Genres.docx
1. An Ultimate Guide to Different Literary Genres
Literature is a general term that refers to almost any widely known written work that centers on a
common theme. All literature can be sorted into two types: nonfiction, which describes writing
based on facts, and fiction, which is forged to some degree. Literary works are split down further
into many other types of literature depending on the extent to which they mimic reality and their
structural and thematic characteristics.
Nonfiction
Nonfiction literature refers to various texts that aim to depict information that is 100 percent
factually correct. Like fiction, nonfiction work may reveal a story; however, the facts are of
utmost importance and may be introduced using storytelling elements. Good nonfiction literature
is void of stereotypes or biases and arranged in a manner that is easy to understand and follow.
Some types of nonfiction literature include biographies and autobiographies, scientific journals,
Shakespeare’s soliloquies, and most textbooks.
Literary Fiction
2. Literary fiction novels are supposed to be works with artistic value and academic merit. They
often include social commentary, political criticism, and reflections on humanity. Literary fiction
novels are generally character-driven, as opposed to plot-driven, and follow a character’s inner
story. For example, literature from predictions in Macbeth determines the depth of
Shakespeare’s imaginative power that excels all boundaries to draw the best artistry in
literature.
Fantasy
Literary fantasy, unlike realistic fiction, is a kind of fiction containing features that cannot
perhaps exist in the real world. Works of fantasy do not abide by Earth's scientific and natural
laws. They may have characters with supernatural abilities and settings that readers cannot
relate to because the environments can never exist in the real world. Therefore, readers must
be able to suspend their doubt to enjoy a literary fantasy work. A Good fantasy story and
speech on happiness captivate readers' interest, have a well-developed plot and characters,
and have some identifiable theme.
Historical
Historical fiction stories take place in the past. Written with a careful ratio of research and
creativity, they transport readers to another place and time, which can be real, imagined, or a
mixture of both. Many historical novels reveal stories that involve actual historical events or
historical figures within historical settings. The famous play Justice by John Galsworthy also
deals with that judgment, legal as well as social.
Poetry
Poetry is usually fictitious, though sometimes non-fictional, a type of literature that seeks to use
appealing writing in a more artistic and condensed manner than everyday prose. It is known for
its usually metaphorical and symbolic language to appeal to the senses, often while employing
rhythmic patterns and rhyming words. No single, comprehensive description of poetry is
possible because there are so many types, each with its own structural rules.
Realist Literature
3. Realist fiction novels are set in a time and place that could happen in the real world. They depict
real people and places in order to be as truthful as possible. Realist works of fiction remain true
to ordinary life and stay by the laws of nature as we currently comprehend them.
