1. 1. 3 Things Learned About the Media Collage AKA: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is more useful than I thought! By Jessica Lauver
 2. 2. Watch this!

If you are a Buffy fan, you will watch the whole episode, otherwise, just ffwd to the

Click this link for Buffy Episode : “I, Robot… You, Jane” and ffwd to these:

2:45-3:50

42:00-42:50

 3. 3. Am I Giles?

Probably a great guy, but so focused on what the article called “text centrism” that he could not seem to move on past the smell of his antiquated tomes.

I have learned that I am NOT Giles and do not cleave to withered pages

However, because I don’t have the skills to teach, most of my students don’t use/can’t create videos, have trouble choosing pictures, and have trouble linking their written words to visual or auditory media

 4. 4. Am I Miss Calendar?

A plucky computer teacher, from her the students the importance of being updated on technology and aware of its evolving nature.

I have learned that I need to be more like her - to overtly teach tech and compositional functions as mentioned in the Show Me framework

This means that I need to have the ability and resources as well as the shared vocabulary to use with peers and students.

 5. 5. Willow! This is who I want to be

Willow, the supposed sidekick, always knows how to straddle the line in all aspects that are needed: traditional, technological, magical.

Good reading skills are good reading skills… in every medium!

There have got to be

efficient ways to

transfer one to the other.

 6. 6. Less-than-tech Savvy Experiences

Two years ago, I went to our tech teacher so she could show me the finer points of Podcasting – letting her know that I did not have a strong knowledge base. She assumed a lot about my background simply because I teach the same kids she does. I left knowing less than I went in.

Students still could not go past what was taught in computer classes and I hadn’t the knowledge. Endless parades of posters and PowerPoint presentations marched through the classroom.
