N ational O utcomes R esearch A nalysis: Goals <ul><li>NORA will provide scientific outcomes research to demonstrate the clinical value, cost effectiveness and improved outcomes provided by athletic trainers to patients. </li></ul><ul><li>The research will favorably affect decisions by: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>third-party payers </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>workers compensation organizations </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>corporate employers </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Federal and state legislators and regulators </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>U.S. health care delivery system </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Reach 100 reporting sites and 35 cases per diagnosis. </li></ul>

All participants have access to their own data on ongoing basis. </li></ul><ul><li>$250 Office Depot gift card when you reach 100 data sets (one card per company/clinic). </li></ul><ul><li>Contribute to needed outcomes data to support the athletic training profession . </li></ul>

Important Facts about NORA: <ul><li>NORA focuses on all musculoskeletal conditions (foot/ankle, knee, hip, spine, shoulder, elbow, and wrist/hand) and the rehabilitation of those conditions. </li></ul><ul><li>UDS (Uniform Data Systems/vendor) has extensive experience in collecting and interpreting outcomes data. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>is an accepted vendor of Medicare. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>has significant therapy outcomes data that athletic trainers can compare against. </li></ul></ul>

Guidelines for participation: <ul><li>An athletic trainer must be sole provider of services for this study (from patient intake to discharge) </li></ul><ul><li>Prefer athletic trainer to be single-credentialed: </li></ul><ul><li>* no dual credentials from PT, OT, PTA </li></ul><ul><li>* CSCS, PES are acceptable </li></ul><ul><li>Must comply with HIPAA, FERPA regulations and laws </li></ul><ul><li>Must be a one-on-one clinical care path (not a mass athletic training room setting) </li></ul><ul><li>Any setting (i.e., high school, clinic, hospital, physician office) </li></ul>

How to, other details: <ul><li>Must fill out a patient intake and discharge form for each patient. </li></ul><ul><li>Forms can be submitted to UDS via fax or online; goal is 100% electronically submitted. Goal to reach 1,800 data sets by June 2006. </li></ul><ul><li>Training takes 1.5 to 2 hours and is provided free via online web cast scheduled by UDS. </li></ul><ul><li>Minimal time commitment to enter data– AT friendly </li></ul><ul><li>No identifying patient or clinic information will be provided. </li></ul><ul><li>Blind, comparative information will be available at the conclusion of the study. </li></ul>
