An updated version of IRUS based on the latest version of COUNTER Code of Practice Release 5 (or R5 for short) •Major update •New look website, reports and metrics •Updated approaches •Same commitment to standardised and comparable usage data Jan 2019: COUNTER CoP Release 5 Late 2019: Tracker updates Early 2020: R5 processing Dec 2020: Version 1 of new website launched 2021: Testing, enhancement, data assurance IRUS R5: open and flexible access to standardised repository usage data - November 2021
  4. 4. IRUS R5: overview 1. Access to data across the IRUS family of services 2. Open access service, so no login is required 3. Conformant with R5: Investigations as well as Requests 4. Reduced number of reports with increased flexibility 5. Improvements to labelling and organisation 6. What about IRUS R4? •Currently running both services in parallel •Plan to archive the IRUS ‘R4’ site – retain access to past data, but no further data added •Give notice •No further development •Put re-directs in place IRUS R5: open and flexible access to standardised repository usage data - November 2021 For you to consider: what do you need to switch over?

IRUS R5 • We have processed the data for the R5 reports back to January 2020 • IRUS robot exclusions are now based on recorded usage across all IRUS services • Some changes in the processing mean counts in R5 may be slightly higher or lower than R4 •Reports • Platform Master Report • Item Master Report • Individual Item Report IRUS R5: open and flexible access to standardised repository usage data - November 2021

Reports and what you can do with them IRUS R5: open and flexible access to standardised repository usage data - November 2021 • View total usage for a repository and/or institution • View total usage for different item types • Identify most used item, article, thesis etc. • Identify country of use • Compare total usage of selected repositories by item type • View individual item level details The reports enable you to: Guides provide examples of how to use the new reports and answer certain questions

Accessing and viewing usage statistics IRUS R5: open and flexible access to standardised repository usage data - November 2021 • Custom Platform, Item Master Reports, and Individual Item Reports are very flexible reporting tools • Create reports tailored to your reporting requirements • Covers wide range of use cases • API Detailed and tailored • Support most common tasks and use cases • Visualisations (top titles) • Widget Quick and simple

What is being counted? •counts number of requests for the full content item Total_Item_Requests •de-duplicates when multiple file types are downloaded from the same item record in the same user session Unique_Item_Requests •counts views of records associated with an item (e.g. abstract, metadata) as well as full content (e.g. PDF, image, etc.) Total_Item_Investigations •de-duplicates use for the same item in a user session Unique_Item_Investigations The 4 metric types in COUNTER Release 5 Note that Investigations are only available from when repositories implement the R5 tracker.
