  • STANZA: is a group of lines in a poem. It is often called a “VERSE”

What is a hook in a song? A hook is the capstone of a well-crafted song. It's part melody, part lyric, and most likely it's both. It's usually the title of the song, repeating throughout the chorus and sitting in the most prominent positions of the first or last line.

capstone: a stone fixed on top of something, typically a wall.
    hook: fastened

  • Stepwise motion is what makes melodies more easily singable, while leaps often grab listener interest.

Great melodies make good use of stepwise motion, which means that the tune moves from one note to the one next to it (a C moving to a D, for example), mixed in with occasional leaps.
The melodic leap, particularly the upward-moving one, has a lot of power, and can pull a listener in and make a melody suddenly come alive.

Upward leaps are exciting, and if they are used sparingly they can be very distinctive, hooky moments that make listeners want to keep coming back.
  • Harmony, in music, the sound of two or more notes heard simultaneously. In practice, this broad definition can also include some instances of notes sounded one after the other.
  • Rhythm is the pattern of sound, silence, and emphasis in a song. In music theory, rhythm refers to the recurrence of notes and rests (silences) in time.

The simplest definition for what is rhythm in music is – the arrangement of notes of different lengths.
